ENG vs IND 2025: 3 Indians who can be game-changers in 2nd Test

The series opener of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy was won by England by five wickets at Headingly. The series now moves onto Edgabaston. The highly-anticipated second Test is scheduled to get underway on Wednesday, July 2, at 3:30 pm (IST).

It is a venue which has historically been India’s weak point over the past. India have lost seven of the eight games played in Birmingham. Discussed below are three players who can turn out to be game-changers in the second Test.

1) Yashasvi Jaiswal

Yashasvi Jaiswal looked in sublime touch in the first innings of the first Test. He was able to tackle the new ball with relative ease and looked assured while at the crease. He was also one of the three centurions from India in their first innings.

An almost unplayable ball early on in his innings brought about his downfall in India’s second innings. With the form he exhibited during the first-half of the game, Jaiswal staying put at the crease will be crucial for his side.

2) Nitish Kumar Reddy

It seems almost likely that Nitish Kumar Reddy will be brought into the mix in place of Shardul Thakur. It was quite evident that Thakur was underutilised with the ball. He had minimal impact with the willow too.

This is where Nitish’s all-round skills could come in handy. He has enough temperament to take pace-bowling units such as those of England, as was evident in the 2024-25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy. His medium pace could be expected to serve a pivotal role too.

3) Mohammed Siraj

With a cloud of uncertainty looming over Jasprit Bumrah’s participation in the second Test, the role of Mohammed Siraj becomes even more vital. If Bumrah doesn’t feature in the game due to workload management, Siraj will hold the key of striking with the ball.

After all, Siraj is the second-most experienced pacer on the tour. He was incisive in portions during the first game. There were some moments where he would err in line and length. Siraj in full rhythm will most definitely be a menacing prospect for the opposition.
