Australia claimed their first Test victory in India since 2017 after dismantling the hosts in the third Test match of the series in Indore. Travis Head and Marnus Labuschagne guided Australia to a comprehensive nine-wicket victory after surviving a nervy half an hour in the morning session of the third day.

The third day of the Indore Test started dramatically after Usman Khawaja was dismissed for a duck on the second delivery of the day. The Indian spinners were making the ball talk, pinning the Australian batters on the backfoot. However, Travis Head and Marnus Labuschage saw off the initial threat with a brilliant partnership.

Travis Head, after blocking a few deliveries, decided to take on the Indian bowlers when he smashed Ravichandran Ashwin for a six and a four in the same over. The floodgates opened from thereon as a cluster of boundaries deflated the Indians, and the visitors eventually cruised to the target to claim their first victory of the series.

India’s batting woes against spin took the center stage in Indore

Truth be told, India were chasing the game ever since their disappointing batting performance on the first morning of the third Test when they were bundled out for a paltry 109 runs on board. While their batting performance in the first innings was hurtful enough, Usman Khawaja and Marnus Labuschagne’s solid stand for the second wicket during the Australian innings compounded India’s misery.

India did make a comeback in the game after dismissing six Aussie batters for just 11 runs on the second day of the Indore Test. However, Australia’s slender lead, coupled with another turbulent batting performance from the home side, handed Steve Smith’s side the initiative heading into the third day.

Even though the pitch was turning big from the first session, Australia’s Nathan Lyon needs to be applauded for his glittering bowling performance. The veteran off-spinner was almost unplayable in the third innings of the match when he returned with a scintillating eight-for.

Here is how Twitter reacted to Australia’s emphatic victory in Indore:
