Sohail Tanvir retires from all formats of international cricket

Arguably one of the most lethal and experienced pacers in Pakistan, Sohail Tanvir, has announced his retirement from all forms of international cricket. Tanvir called time on his career after 16 years of his association with the national team since 2007.

The left-arm pacer took to his official social media handle to share the major update on his professional career. He further thanked the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and added that he would continue playing for domestic and franchise cricket.

“I am retiring from all formats of international cricket and will continue to play domestic and franchise cricket going forward. Thank you to PCB for giving me the opportunity to play for my country,” he wrote in a post on Twitter.

Tanvir made his final appearance in international cricket during a T20I match against West Indies at Port of Spain in 2017.

Sohail Tanvir draws curtains on international career

The veteran speedster made his debut in 2007 and swiftly rose up the ranks and made massive name for himself. Batters would often feel threatened courtesy of his unique bowling action and pace. With this, he has bamboozled many to claim massive number of wickets during his career with the Men in Green. During his time with the national side, Tanvir featured in 62 ODIs, 57 T20Is, and two Test matches in which he claimed 71, 54, and five wickets respectively.

In addition to this, the pacer was also part of the 2009 T20 World Cup-winning squad. Interestingly, Tanvir was the first-ever winner of the ‘purple cap’ as he bagged the prize in the inaugural edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) and helped Rajasthan Royals to lift the title. The pacer bagged 22 wickets in 11 matches in his only season in the IPL.

The 38-year-old has represented Karachi Kings, Lahore Qalandars, Multan Sultans and Quetta Gladiators between 2016 and 2022 in the Pakistan Super League (PSL).
