England cricketer Sam Curran has expressed his eagerness and is looking forward to playing in the upcoming all-important ODI Cricket World Cup, which is scheduled to be played in India later in 2023.

Curran has over the years proved and groomed himself to be one of the most reliable and best all-rounders for England. Be it with the bat or with the ball, the all-rounder has very rarely failed to impress and is hailed to be England’s biggest star for the future.

England are currently the defending champions of the 50-overs World Cup. They would be more than willing to be able to defend their title when they play the marquee tournament in India, later this year. The youngster hailed the fact that there is a lot of competition within the side. He stated that with so many players and many of his colleagues being in top form at the same time, it will only just encourage him individually to put in that extra effort and keep proving himself. This way, he is hopeful he would be able to cement his place in England’s playing XI on a regular basis.

‘It’s a quality squad at the moment’ – Sam Curran happy with competition

“It is a quality squad at the moment. There are a lot of guys who have been on the Test tour who will come back in. Any time you play in a team for England you want to put in a performance but it shows we’ve got a great squad with Jof, Woakes, Woody being back now as well,” the 24-year-old was quoted as saying by ESPNCricinfo.

Many of the English players have had to deal with a line of injuries lately and thus had to be out of the game for some time. Curran was of the opinion that England are currently “spoilt for choices”, as there are a lot too many players to choose from. However, the English management has to definitely be careful enough to pick the right brand of players, if they aim to defend their title.

“Everyone has had a tough year with injuries and everyone is pleased to see the quality of the bowlers we have around. You saw how great the Test team were bowling as well. It is an exciting time and hopefully we can give the captain and coach some good decisions to make but right now I’m sure the bowlers just want to keep performing and be in that 15 for the World Cup. Conditions will dictate if there is extra pace or extra spin, so it is about enjoying it and not putting on too much pressure,” he added.
