The 2023 Border-Gavaskar Trophy finally came to an end as India won the series 2-1. After the first two Tests were completely dominated by the hosts, Australia made a comeback in the Indore Test before the fourth and final Test in Ahmedabad ended in a draw, which handed India the series win.

The two teams will now play a three-match ODI series, starting from March 17. The visitors will also have David Warner back for the 50-over games after he was ruled out of the last two Tests of the series due to a hairline fracture. The 36-year-old has also been struggling to score runs, which has led many to say that it is time that Warner calls it quits.

Australia head coach Andrew McDonald came forward to give his take on Warner’s situation and opined that the 36-year-old is in Australia’s plans for the upcoming World Test Championship final, which will be played from June 7.

Dave’s fully in our plans for the World Test Championship: Andrew McDonald

McDonald touched upon a wide variety of topics and suggested that Warner’s comeback in the upcoming ODI series would be key in the team assessing his situation going forward.

“I think you work through that conversation, and how each player finishes is always different. Some want to go out in a certain way, and others are OK with potentially being dropped. But at the moment Dave’s fully in our plans for the World Test Championship, he’s coming back for the one-day series, he’s recovered from his injury there; so we’ll see Dave back in Australian colors on the 17th, and we’ll go from there,” McDonald was quoted as saying by The Age.

He also talked about the tight schedule for the Aussies, which includes The Ashes, WTC final, and the ODI World Cup towards the latter stages of the year.

“We are continually talking to our senior players about what they have coming up. Juggling the schedule that’s in front of us, We are staring down 274 days on the road—144 for the red-ball team, 130 for the white-ball team,” he said.
