St Kitts and Nevis Patriots secured a massive 8-wicket victory over Jamaica Tallawahs courtesy of Rashid Khan’s brilliant spell in match 17 of CPL 2022 at Queen’s Park Oval, Port of Spain, Trinidad. Spinner Rashid Khan was adjudged as the player of the match after taking one wicket with just 8 runs in four overs including a maiden.

At the start of the match, St Kitts and Nevis Patriots captain Dwayne Bravo won the toss and elected to field, which put Jamaica Tallawahs to bat first. Coming down to bat, Jamaica Tallawahs managed to score 139 runs by losing 5 wickets in the 20 overs due to the aggressive bowling of St. Kitts and Nevis Patriots’ bowlers.

Batting from the start, the two openers of Jamaica Tallawahs, Brandon King and Kennar Lewis, were under pressure. Lewis tried to be a bit more aggressive, but he returned to the dressing room after being caught by Rashid Khan in the 6th over of the innings. He scored 24 runs off 17 balls with the help of 5 boundaries. After his departure, the run rate of Jamaica Tallawahs slowed down further.

In addition, Reifer remained unbeaten with 40 runs in 26 balls with 4 fours and 2 sixes.

The new target for St Kitts and Nevis Patriots stood at 113 runs by the DLS system.

Chasing a challenging target of 113 runs in 15 overs, St Kitts and Nevis Patriots reached the port of victory in 12.3 overs losing just 2 wickets. Wicketkeeper batsmen Andre Fletcher and Evin Lewis got the team off to a flying start. They both picked up 49 runs in 5 overs. Britons are mourning the death of Queen Elizabeth II, the longest-reigning monarch in UK history. Meanwhile, 10 days of state mourning have been announced. Which has an impact on the sports field as well. All sports events, including the English Premier League, have been suspended. But after a day’s suspension in honor of the late Queen, Stokes & Co. played at 200 yards.

The hosts ended the series with a big 9-wicket win against South Africa in the series-deciding Test at Kennington Oval. South Africa won the first of the three-match Test series. England won the second match to equalize the series. The first day of the third test was spoiled by rain, the second day was postponed in honor of the late Queen. In the end, England confirmed the series by 2-1 by winning the Test in three days.

South Africa’s defeat was confirmed at the end of the fourth day. England needed just 33 runs on the fifth and final day on Monday (September 12) to secure the series win. All the wickets were in hand. Playing in such a simple equation, the English batsmen spent only 5.3 overs. It took only 28 minutes for them to wrap up the match. However, the opening pair was broken on the verge of victory.

Alex Lees made 39 off 73 balls after being lbw by Kagiso Rabada. However, the hosts won the series against the Proteas after losing one wicket. For the team, Zak Crawley remained unbeaten playing a brilliant innings of 69 off 57 balls. Apart from that, Ollie Pope scored 11 runs off 10 balls and left the field winning the game.

Earlier, after the start of the third day’s play, the two teams had lost 17 wickets. South Africa lost the toss and went down to bat first. The Protea batsmen had no answer to the devastating bowling of Ollie Robinson and Stuart Broad. The visitors were bowled out for only 118 runs by the outstanding bowling of English pacers. Marco Jansen scored the maximum 30 runs for the team. For the English, Robinson scalped the maximum number of 5 wickets, Broad got 4, and James Anderson took 1 wicket.

England did not bat well in their first innings either. England’s innings ended in just 16 balls on the morning of the fourth day. Apart from Ollie Pope’s 67, no one could make a fifty. As a result, the hosts were bundled out for just 158 runs. Marco Jansen took 5 wickets and Rabada took 4 wickets for the Proteas. Besides, Anrich Nortje picked up 1 wicket.

Trailing by just 40 runs, openers Sarel Erwee and Dean Elgar got South Africa off to a good start by batting comfortably in the 2nd innings. 58 runs came from their opening pair. But it didn’t last long for the Africans. Stokes broke the frozen pair soon after coming into the attack. Captain Elgar could not last long after that.

He got out with an lbw by Broad in the third over after lunch. This batsman who scored 36 runs in 6 fours would have survived if the review was taken. With this wicket, Broad surpassed Australian pace bowling great Glenn McGrath’s record of 563 wickets. He is now the second-highest wicket-taker in Tests for England after Anderson and gets the fifth position overall. Broad now has a total of 566 wickets.

After the departure of the two openers, South Africa could not turn around. Apart from the three batsmen of South Africa’s top order, not even 20 runs came from anyone else’s bat. Losing wickets at regular intervals, the team lost their last 7 wickets for just 78 runs. In the end, the visitors’ innings was wrapped up in 169 runs by the bowling canon of the hosts’ pacers.

Four pacers of England shared 10 wickets of the Proteas’ second innings. Broad and Stokes took the highest number of three wickets each. Anderson and Robinson snapped up two wickets each.

In response, South Africa could have struck with the first ball in the England camp. But Jansen missed Lees’ catch. Then on the fourth day, they could not create any more chances. As a result, South Africa had to lose the series by 2-1.

However, despite losing the series, Kagiso Rabada was jointly selected as the player of the series along with Ben Stokes. On the other hand, Ollie Robinson was selected as the player of the match for his excellent bowling in this series decider.

Saint Lucia Kings vs St Kitts and Nevis Patriots (Match 15) – Highlights

St Lucia Kings secured a massive 61-run win over St Kitts and Nevis Patriots courtesy of Matthew Forde’s superb bowling performance at the Darren Sammy National Cricket Stadium, Grosse Islet in the 15th match of CPL 2022. Pacer Matthew Forde was selected as the player of the match after taking three consecutive wickets in three consecutive overs with the ball in hand.

At the start of the match, St Kitts and Nevis Patriots captain Evin Lewis won the toss and elected to field sending St Lucia Kings to bat first. St. Lucia Kings collected a fighting score of 161 runs after losing 9 wickets in the scheduled 20 overs.

St. Lucia Kings’ two openers Johnson Charles and Faf du Plessis gave the team a flying start after coming down to bat. The two put on an opening partnership of 86 runs off 53 balls. Courtesy of both of them, St. Lucia Kings scored 61 runs in 6 overs of power play. Charles returned to the dressing room scoring 41 off 32 balls. His innings was seen to be played with 4 fours and 2 sixes.

Tim David, who came down after one down, could not make much of an advantage in this match. He scored only 2 runs in 7 balls. After a while, Roshon Primus also got out with 2 runs off 3 balls. However, captain du Plessis kept one end of the wicket safe. But he also returned to the pavilion after playing a stormy innings of 60 runs from 35 balls for the team’s 112 runs. His innings was decorated with 3 fours and 5 sixes.

After the departure of the captain, St. Lucia Kings collapsed like a house of cards under the bowling canon of St. Kitts and Nevis Patriots’ bowlers. As a result, the scoreboard of St. Lucia Kings became 112/4 from 124/7. In the end, St. Lucia Kings collected a fighting score thanks to the cameo innings of David Wiese (14 off 12) and Forde (11 off 15).

Dwaine Pretorius took the maximum number of 3 wickets for St Kitts and Nevis Patriots. Apart from this, Akila Dananjaya and Sheldon Cottrell took 2 wickets each, and Rashid Khan picked up 1 wicket.

Chasing a challenging target of 162 runs, St. Kitts and Nevis Patriots were bowled out for just 100 runs by the aggressive bowling of St. Lucia Kings pacers. In the beginning, Forde guided the first three batters to the way of the pavilion in his first three overs. His victims were wicket-keeper batsman Andre Fletcher (0) in the first over of the innings, Lewis (24 off 9) in the 3rd over, and Dewald Brevis (11 off 9) in the 5th over.

As a result of this early collapse, St. Kitts and Nevis Patriots were able to score 48 runs for the loss of 3 wickets in 6 overs of the power play. Then Darren Bravo and Sherfane Rutherford tried to take the responsibility of taking the team forward. But they too could not stay on the wicket for long. Bravo was out for 20 from 25 balls and Rutherford made 9 from 19 balls.

Then, when Dwaine Pretorius (9 off 13) got out, it was only a matter of time for St Kitts and Nevis Patriots to lose the game. In the end, the innings of the Patriots stopped with one over left in the game. Apart from Forde, David Wiese took 3 wickets for St Lucia Kings. Besides, Alzarri Joseph and Roshon Primus took 2 wickets each.

By winning this match, Saint Lucia Kings have climbed to 3rd place in the points table. On the other hand, after losing this match, St. Kitts and Nevis Patriots are now at the 4th position in the points table.

AUS vs NZ (3rd ODI) – Highlights

Australia and New Zealand met in the 3rd of the three-match ODI series yesterday morning. The match was a battle to survive a whitewash. But New Zealand was not saved in the end. Australia set a huge target for New Zealand as they batted first. But New Zealand wrapped up before reaching the target. Australia had already won the series one match earlier and also whitewashed New Zealand by winning the last match. On the other hand, Steven Smith got the title of the best of the match and the best of the series by scoring a century.

New Zealand won the toss and sent off Australia to bat first in Cairns yesterday. Like the previous two matches of the series, Australia’s two openers failed to bat well. After replacing David Warner Joss Inglis couldn’t score more than 10 runs. He played 16 balls to score 10 runs. Inglis was caught behind the wicket by Tom Latham while driving Trent Boult’s ball. Aaron Finch could not finish the ODI nicely with the bat. Returned with only 5 runs. Captain Aaron Finch could not get out of the circle of failure even in his last ODI. This Australian captain returned to the dressing room after being bowled by Tim Southee.

However, the captain’s farewell has been managed nicely by the teammates. Steven Smith rescued the team who lost 2 wickets for 16 runs. Smith formed a great partnership with Marnus Labuschagne to lead Australia.

The hosts got the basis for a big score in the pair of 118 runs from 169 balls. But Lockie Ferguson broke the pair in the 34th over. Labuschagne was caught out and sent to the restroom. He scored 52 runs off 78 balls with the help of 2 fours. Labuschagne went back to the dressing room at the team’s 134 runs but Smith was adamant and stayed on the field. Then Smith brought up his 12th century in the 44th over. But in the next over, Smith was bowled by Mitchell Santner. Smith scored 105 runs off 131 balls. His innings of 105 runs had 11 fours and 1 six.

Then Glenn Maxwell left the field with 14 runs off 8 balls with the help of 1 six. However, Alex Carey and Cameron Green brought huge capital to the team and remain undefeated. Carey remains unbeaten with 42 runs off 43 balls. Green played an innings of 24 runs off 12 balls. He also hit 2 fours and 2 sixes. In the end, they scored 267 runs losing 5 wickets with 14 runs extra.

Trent Boult took 2 wickets for New Zealand. Besides, Tim Southee, Lockie Ferguson, and Mitchell Santner took 1 wicket each.

The target was 268 runs. But the Australian team gave Finch a farewell gift by thrashing New Zealand by winning the third ODI of the series by 25 runs. Chasing the target of 268 runs given by Australia, New Zealand was bowled out for 242 runs.

New Zealand did not get off to a bad start. However, the opening pair broke with the dismissal of Devon Conway (21) at the team’s 49 runs. Another opener, Finn Allen, did not last long either.

Allen (35) was caught by Josh Hazlewood off Cameron Green’s ball. After losing Tom Latham, Daryl Mitchell, and Kane Williamson at regular intervals, the Kiwis lost 5 wickets for 122 runs.

Then Glenn Phillips took the lead with James Neesham. But Neesham returned with 36 runs at the team’s 173 runs. After that Phillips tried to take the team forward with Santner.

But Abbott sent Phillips (47) back to the box with a brilliant catch from Mitchell Starc. After that, all that was left was the formality of New Zealand’s loss. The guests stopped at 242 runs.

Starc took 3 wickets for Australia. Cameron Green and Sean Abbott took 2 wickets each. Besides that, Adam Zampa and Josh Hazlewood took 1 wicket each.

SL vs PAK (Final Match) – Highlights

Sri Lanka defeated Pakistan by 23 runs in the final of the Asia Cup and got the crown of excellence this season. However, after the miserable loss in the group stage against Afghanistan, no one could have imagined that the Lankans will reach the final by blowing away superpowers like India and Pakistan. With this, Sri Lanka won the title of the greatest event in the continental for the sixth time.

Chasing the target of 171 runs given by Sri Lanka in Dubai on Sunday (September 11), Pakistan got all out after scoring 147 runs in the allotted 20 overs. Pramod Madushan was one of the heroes who won the match for the Lankans in the final. He turned the match by taking 4 wickets alone. In the end, Wanindu Hasaranga also helped his team to win the match by taking 3 wickets in one over.

Pakistan’s batting pillar is the top order. Because it has been seen in recent times, almost 90% of the achievement of winning the match by chasing runs belongs to Mohammad Rizwan, Babar Azam, and Fakhar Zaman. However, coming to the Asia Cup, Babar was suffering from a run drought. His highest score of the tournament was 30 against Sri Lanka in the last match of the Super Four.

In the final, out of form, Babar returned with 5 runs from 6 balls. In the fourth over of the innings, Babar Azam connected the ball well outside the leg stump of Madushan while trying to send the ball to the fine leg boundary. Dilshan Madushanka took a great catch at the short fine leg and the Pakistan captain got dismissed.

Another top-order batsman, Fakhar Zaman, is in the same situation as Babar. He did not bat well except for a fifty against Hong Kong in the group stage. He could not play any role for the team even in the final. On the contrary, he put the team in danger by getting out in the next ball of Babar. Fakhar was bowled by getting an edge while negotiating a shot on Madushan’s ball and it hit into the stumps. Pakistan lost 2 wickets scoring 22 runs.

Pakistan did not get a big collection in the power play in that initial shock. 37 runs for 2 wickets was their total at the end of the powerplay. Opener Rizwan has been leading the top order alone since the beginning of the season. Even yesterday, he remained a symbol of confidence in Pakistan’s batting line-up. He handled the initial pressure of the team with Iftikhar Ahmed. They made a pair of 71 runs against 59 balls for the third wicket.

Madushan broke the pair in the 14th over. Iftikhar was caught at midwicket while picking up his slower. He scored 32 runs off 31 balls with 2 fours and a six. Hard hitter Mohammad Nawaz came to the crease when 78 runs were required from 40 balls. But he could not show any surprise like in the match against India.

Nawaz was caught at midwicket while trying to play a pull shot to Chamika Karunaratne’s short length slower. He scored only 6 runs in 9 balls. On the other hand, Rizwan scored his third fifty of the tournament holding into one end of the crease.

However, his batting was not at all expected in T20s. Even if he took control of the match, he also drowned the team by playing a lot of balls. He was caught on the boundary going for a six when the team needed 61 runs off 24 balls to win. Rizwan scored 55 runs off 49 balls hitting 4 fours and a six. Hasaranga sent him back to the dressing room.

Coming in the last over of his spell, Hasaranga changed the entire picture of the match. After Rizwan, Sri Lanka secured the win by returning Khushdil Shah (2) and Asif Ali (0) in a gap of four balls. Pakistan still needed 59 runs off 19 balls. Despite having three wickets in hand, there was virtually no other batsman at the crease except Shadab Khan. In the end, losing all the wickets, Pakistan’s innings stopped at 147 runs.

Madushan scalped the highest number of 4 wickets for Sri Lanka. Besides, Hasaranga took 3, Karunaratne 2, and Maheesh Theekshana took 1 wicket each. Earlier, after losing the toss and coming down to bat, Sri Lanka collected a challenging score of 170 runs by losing 6 wickets in the scheduled 20 overs based on Bhanuka Rajapaksa’s stormy innings of 71 runs from 45 balls as well as 36 run-innings off 21 balls by Hasaranga.

Pakistani pacer Naseem Shah gave a blow in the first over in the Sri Lankan camp. After giving 2 runs including wides in the first two balls, Naseem uprooted the stumps of Kusal Mendis with a great in-swinger in the next ball. He spent only 4 runs in that over. Mohammad Hasnain gave 12 runs in the next over.

Sri Lanka lost another wicket at the break of one over. Pathum Nissanka was caught at long off on the second ball of Haris Rauf’s over. He scored 8 runs off 11 balls before getting out. Pakistan skipper Babar Azam took Nissanka’s catch running back. Haris also took the wicket of Danushka Gunathilaka (1) with an in-swinger on the first ball of the sixth over of the innings.

Dhananjaya de Silva was pulling the Sri Lankan team alone. Of the 47 runs scored by the Lankans at the end of the power play, De Silva was the only one to score 27 runs. Silva, who became important, got out in the eighth over of the innings. He was caught and bowled by Iftikhar. Captain Dasun Shanaka returned to the dugout after scoring only 2 runs while trying to play a big shot off Shadab.

Hasaranga and Rajapaksa led the team when Sri Lanka was suffering from the loss of 5 wickets for the team’s 58 runs. They made a pair of 58 runs. Hasaranga scored 36 runs off 21 balls. Haris broke that pair. Rajapaksa and Karunaratne formed another strong pair at the end. 54 runs came from their pair till the last ball of the innings.

Rajapaksa played a devastating unbeaten innings of 71 runs off 45 balls smashing 6 fours and 3 sixes. On the other hand, Karunaratne remained unbeaten with 14 runs. For Pakistan, Haris Rauf took the highest number of 3 wickets, and Shadab Khan, Iftikhar Ahmed, and Naseem Shah took 1 wicket each.

Bhanuka Rajapaksa was adjudged player of the match after playing the match-winning innings. Apart from this, all-rounder Wanindu Hasaranga was selected as the player of the series for his excellent performance throughout the tournament.
