Top 3 bowling performances by England players on ODI debut

The England team have been among the pioneers of the game of cricket as they have a very rich history of the game. In the 2015 edition of the World Cup, where they lost to Bangladesh in a must-win game, they were eventually knocked out of the competition. This indeed changed a lot of things in the way England planned to approach their cricket. After this exit, the England players as well as the team management thought of a way out and this is the reason why the English players adopted a whole different style of playing cricket.

This was the major reason which made them the World Champions in the 2019 edition of the World Cup. Let us have a look at the top three bowling performances by England players on their debut in ODIs;

1. 5/51 – Jake Ball vs Bangladesh in Mirpur in 2016

Jake Ball is a strongly built pace bowler who initially made his mark at Nottinghamshire when he debuted for the national side. Ball then went on to continue his form in ODI when he made his ODI debut in an even more spectacular manner when he became the first England bowler to debut in a one-day international match with five wickets. It was even more meritorious because it arrived in the difficult conditions of Dhaka. The arm-fast medium bowler registered a figure of 5/51 against Bangladesh.

2. 4/23 – Adam Hollioake vs Pakistan in Birmingham in 1996

One of the most aggressive all-rounders that England has ever seen, Adam Hollioake was known for his adversity with the bat as well as the bowl. Hollioake was a natural leader, who even encouraged his Surrey side for getting up to the opposition’s noses, unlike typical Australian mentality. It was in his debut match against the touring Pakistan team when Hollioake registered his international best bowling figure. He picked up 4/23 on his debut game.

3. 4/32 – Chris Tremlett vs Bangladesh in Nottingham in 2005
