Wellington’s second ODI on November 7 produced one of the lighter moments of the series when Rohit Sharma greeted Glenn Phillips’s arrival at the crease with the John Cena ‘You can’t see’ gesture, waving an open palm across his face in the style of the WWE star. Virat Kohli stood close by, and the two shared a laugh as Phillips made his way to the middle.
A clip of the exchange circulated widely on X and drew quick attention online. The moment was set up by the Wellington stadium DJ, who played John Cena’s WWE entrance theme the instant Phillips stepped out, a routine that New Zealand venues have maintained whenever the batter walks in to bat.

It was Kohli who first acted on the cue, during the opening match in Auckland on November 4. As Phillips reached the crease that day, Kohli walked past him and waved his hand across his face, recreating Cena’s signature move. The clip spread widely online, and Sharma chose to repeat the tribute in Wellington when the same situation arose three days later.
Phillips dismissed for a duck as New Zealand fold for 134
The celebration did not remain confined to the playing surface. Former India batter Ajinkya Rahane, on commentary duty during the live telecast, performed the same ‘You can’t see’ gesture on air. Analyst Ajay Jadeja joined him in re-enacting the move, making it a shared moment across both the broadcast and the field.
Phillips, however, found little to celebrate after his reception. He fell for a duck in Wellington, bowled by Gurnoor Brar, and New Zealand’s innings ended at 134 all out. India had arrived at the fixture one match ahead in the five-match series, having claimed the Auckland opener by five wickets.
Phillips had managed 30 runs in that first match in Auckland without being able to prevent India’s victory. His form in New Zealand contrasts with what he produced earlier in the year: in the three-match ODI series played in India in January 2026, Phillips finished as New Zealand’s second-highest run-scorer with 150 runs, and New Zealand took that series 2-1. The five-match series in New Zealand continues after the Wellington fixture.
