Tilak Varma produced one of the more striking moments of the India tour of New Zealand 2026-27 when he chose to hold back his half-century celebration during the 2nd T20I at Hagley Oval, Christchurch, on October 24. He kept his composure even after reaching fifty, determined to see the chase through before allowing himself any release.
When Nitish Kumar Reddy steered the penultimate delivery through mid-wicket to complete a 4-wicket victory, Varma finally let go. He pushed back his flowing locks and let out a loud, emotional scream, releasing the tension that had built through a difficult chase.

India’s series position after Christchurch
India defeated New Zealand by four wickets in a thrilling second T20I at Hagley Oval in Christchurch on October 24, taking a 2-0 lead in the five-match series. Indian captain Shreyas Iyer won the toss and elected to bowl first.
