[WATCH] Shreyas Iyer recognises fan after nearly a decade in heartwarming viral clip

An old video from the Mumbai T20 League has resurfaced on social media, showing a candid fan interaction involving Shreyas Iyer that quickly drew widespread attention. In the clip, a fan approached Iyer and presented him with a photograph of the two of them together, reportedly taken in 2015 — roughly a decade before the video began circulating online.

Iyer initially appeared perplexed when shown the old photograph, seemingly unable to place the moment or the person in it. After taking a second look, he appeared to recognise the fan and recalled their earlier meeting, with the exchange shifting from puzzlement to warmth in a matter of seconds.

Before fully making the connection, Iyer jokingly told the fan, “Abhi tera chehra yaad aaya mereko. Dhaadi aagayi hai,” noting with good humour how much the supporter’s appearance had changed over the years. The unscripted remark resonated with viewers and helped the clip spread rapidly across platforms.

Iyer’s reaction to the old photograph

The video gave fans a nostalgic glimpse into Iyer’s earlier years, with Iyer himself appearing surprised at how much time had passed since the original photograph was taken. The light-hearted nature of the exchange drew warm responses from supporters who came across the clip online.

The resurfaced video gained traction ahead of the second T20I between India and West Indies, scheduled at the JSCA International Stadium Complex in Ranchi on October 9. At the time the clip was circulating, India were leading the five-match series 1-0, with Iyer serving as captain for the contest.

Series context as the clip went viral

Iyer’s association with the Mumbai T20 League is well established. He led Sobo Mumbai Falcons to the finals of the Mumbai T20 League 2025, and the original fan interaction in the resurfaced clip is attributed to a Mumbai T20 League fixture, though the specific edition in which it was filmed has not been confirmed by available sources.

India’s series against West Indies continues with the remaining matches in the five-game contest following the Ranchi fixture on October 9.
