Shreyas Iyer has climbed to a career-best No. 7 in the ICC men’s T20I batter rankings after scoring his maiden century in the format. His unbeaten 102 off 43 balls against West Indies in the series opener in Lucknow helped India win the match and earned him a jump of 18 spots on the table.
Iyer is now the third-highest-placed India batter in the T20I rankings. Ishan Kishan, who scored an unbeaten 37 off 27 balls in the same match, holds the top position, while Abhishek Sharma sits at No. 2 after hitting 21 off ten balls. Pakistan’s Sahibzada Farhan, England’s Harry Brook and Jos Buttler, and South Africa’s Dewald Brevis are placed between the top two and Iyer at No. 7.
Among the other movers from the India versus West Indies T20I, Sherfane Rutherford was a notable climber on the West Indies side. His 56 off 34 balls helped him rise ten spots from No. 47 to No. 37 in the T20I batter rankings.
How did the bowlers’ rankings change?
Afghanistan’s Rashid Khan has reclaimed the top spot in the ICC men’s T20I bowler rankings, displacing Pakistan’s Abrar Ahmed. Abrar’s returns of none for 29 in the semi-final and 1 for 29 in the final of the Asian Games were not enough to keep him at No. 1, and he has dropped to second place. For Rashid, this is his eighth time at the summit of the T20I bowler rankings, a position he has held for more than twice as long as any other bowler in the history of the table.
India’s Axar Patel was another significant mover among bowlers. He took four wickets across two games at the Asian Games and followed that with 2 for 26 against West Indies, which helped him jump 16 places to reach No. 7 in the T20I bowler rankings. Bangladesh’s spin pair also moved up, with Nasum Ahmed rising three spots to eighth and Mahedi Hasan climbing ten places to ninth.
What changed in the ODI rankings?
Shubman Gill has strengthened his hold on the top position in the ICC men’s ODI batter rankings. His 223 not out in the second ODI against West Indies, his second double century in the format, extended his lead over New Zealand’s Daryl Mitchell at the top of the table to 47 points.
Mitchell moved up to No. 2 as Virat Kohli slipped to No. 3. Kohli had scored a century in the first ODI against West Indies but managed only 29 and a duck in the matches that followed, which cost him the second position. West Indies wicketkeeper-batter Shai Hope played a match-winning 162 not out in the third ODI and gained two places to reach No. 6, while KL Rahul, who also scored a century in that game despite India losing, rose seven spots to enter the top ten at No. 10.
Among ODI bowlers, West Indies pacer Jayden Seales entered the top ten after his three-wicket haul in the third ODI against India. He rose 12 spots to reach No. 10 in the ODI bowler rankings.
