Top 3 best bowling figures in Asian Games 2026

The men’s cricket competition at the Asian Games 2026 produced several impressive bowling performances, with spinners and seamers making the most of conditions in Japan. While India eventually retained the gold medal after defeating Pakistan in the final, some of the tournament’s best individual bowling displays came during the earlier group-stage matches.

With the competition featuring several emerging international cricketers, bowlers had plenty of opportunities to make an impact. Among the standout performances, Arab Gul Momand, Kushal Bhurtel and Pavandeep Singh registered three of the most impressive bowling figures of the tournament.

1. Arab Gul Momand – 4/8

Afghanistan’s Arab Gul Momand produced the best bowling figures of the men’s Asian Games 2026 cricket tournament, returning sensational figures of 4/8.

Momand’s performance came against Japan in Afghanistan’s opening match of the competition. He bowled with excellent control and consistently troubled the Japanese batters, eventually finishing with four wickets while conceding only eight runs.

His spell was particularly effective because he combined wicket-taking ability with outstanding economy. In a T20 contest, conceding just eight runs while taking four wickets can completely alter the course of an innings.

Afghanistan eventually secured a comfortable victory, and Momand’s contribution played an important role in restricting Japan. His 4/8 remained the best bowling performance in the tournament even after the knockout stages were completed.

The Afghan bowler finished the competition with five wickets from two matches, making him one of the leading wicket-takers overall.

2. Kushal Bhurtel – 4/21

Nepal’s Kushal Bhurtel produced the second-best bowling figures of the tournament with an impressive 4/21.

Bhurtel’s spell stood out because of the number of wickets he managed to claim in just four overs. His ability to break partnerships and keep the opposition under pressure made him a key performer for Nepal during their campaign.

The four-wicket haul also placed Bhurtel among the tournament’s leading wicket-takers. According to the tournament statistics, he finished with four wickets from four overs in his best bowling performance.

Although he conceded 13 more runs than Arab Gul, Bhurtel’s four-wicket haul remained one of the most impactful individual bowling displays of the competition.

Nepal entered the Asian Games with a strong T20 reputation, and Bhurtel’s performance demonstrated the team’s ability to produce match-winning contributions with the ball.

His 4/21 was particularly significant in a format where four wickets from a single spell can put an opposition batting lineup under immense pressure.

3. Pavandeep Singh – 3/11

Malaysia’s Pavandeep Singh completes the top three with excellent figures of 3/11.

Unlike the two bowlers above him, Pavandeep did not claim four wickets, but his three-wicket haul came at an outstanding economy rate. He conceded only 11 runs from his four overs, giving him an economy rate of 2.75.

His spell was therefore one of the most economical performances of the entire men’s competition.

Pavandeep’s ability to combine wicket-taking with such tight run control made his performance particularly noteworthy in the T20 format. Every run saved during the middle overs can increase the pressure on the batting team, and Pavandeep managed to keep the scoring rate firmly under control.

Tournament statistics show that he finished with three wickets from his four overs, conceding only 11 runs.

His figures also highlight an important aspect of T20 bowling at the Asian Games. While wicket-taking is naturally crucial, bowlers who can consistently prevent boundaries and force batters into taking risks can have an equally significant influence on the outcome.

Top 3 best bowling figures in Asian Games 2026

Rank Bowler Team Bowling figures
1 Arab Gul Momand Afghanistan 4/8
2 Kushal Bhurtel Nepal 4/21
3 Pavandeep Singh Malaysia 3/11

The list demonstrates the variety of bowling performances produced during the competition. Arab Gul combined a four-wicket haul with exceptional economy, while Kushal Bhurtel also claimed four wickets but conceded more runs. Pavandeep Singh, meanwhile, stood out for his remarkable three-wicket spell that cost only 11 runs.

Interestingly, none of the three bowlers featured in the gold-medal match. India and Pakistan entered the knockout stages directly because of their tournament seeding, while their respective quarter-final fixtures were washed out. India subsequently defeated Sri Lanka in the semi-final before beating Pakistan in the final.

Indian bowlers also produce memorable spells

Although they do not feature in the overall top three, India’s bowlers produced some outstanding performances during their run to the gold medal.

Jasprit Bumrah returned figures of 2/7 against Sri Lanka in the semi-final, while Axar Patel claimed 2/8. Abhishek Sharma also made a huge impact by taking 2/2 from just five deliveries as Sri Lanka were bowled out for 45.

In the final against Pakistan, Axar Patel and Washington Sundar both finished with 2/29, while Shivam Dube took 2/33. India eventually restricted Pakistan to 192/6 after posting 211/6.
