‘Will never let Vaibhav Sooryavanshi go’ – Sanjeev Goenka rues chances of not acquiring Vaibhav Sooryavanshi earlier

Lucknow Super Giants owner Sanjiv Goenka has heaped praise on Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, calling him a “generational talent” and claiming that almost every IPL franchise is disappointed about not having the youngster in their squad.

Rajasthan Royals secured Sooryavanshi for ₹1.1 crore at the IPL 2025 mega auction in Jeddah. The decision has proved to be a masterstroke, with the left-handed batter making rapid progress at the domestic and Under-19 levels before making his India debut.

Goenka, who has closely followed Sooryavanshi’s development, believes the Royals are unlikely to let the 15-year-old leave the franchise anytime soon. He also feels that if RR ever decide to part ways with the youngster, the other IPL franchises would be ready to make a move for him.

“Vaibhav Sooryavanshi is worth all the praise in the world. He is a generational talent. Every IPL team owner is upset that Vaibhav Sooryavanshi is not part of their team. And now since Lakshmi Mittal owns Rajasthan Royals, he will never let Vaibhav Sooryavanshi go anywhere. And if it ever happens, not just me… the entire IPL world of owners are waiting,” he said on Shubhankar Mishra’s podcast.

Goenka’s admiration for Sooryavanshi is not new. During IPL 2026, the LSG owner regularly praised the youngster on social media despite him playing for a rival franchise. His comments now underline just how highly he rates the teenage sensation.

‘I can do it’

Goenka also spoke about Sooryavanshi’s mindset and the confidence he has displayed at such a young age. Having followed his game closely, the LSG owner feels the youngster has managed to maintain the right balance between confidence and overconfidence.

“Vaibhav’s first public image is in a Rising Pune Supergiant jersey. And he’s killing it today. He obviously has the talent, the shots, but it’s his confidence that captured my attention the most. Supreme confidence. Not overconfidence. When you get overconfident, that sparks the beginning of your downfall. Vaibhav has the confidence that ‘I can do it’. And whatever I have seen, he is improving with every game. His shots are perfect cricket shots. He is learning to alter himself a bit, and that will make him much more effective. He is a player for the big occasion,” he added.
