Brisbane Heat have secured New Zealand batter Tim Robinson for his first Big Bash League campaign. The 24-year-old, born April 28, 2002, brings international experience from 31 T20I appearances and three ODIs for the Black Caps. Robinson will compete in BBL|16 as part of the Heat’s squad for the upcoming season.
Robinson has impressed in recent domestic and franchise cricket. He scored 139 runs off 64 balls during the 2024–2025 Super Smash, recording a strike rate of 217.18 against Otago. That innings ranks as the second-highest individual score in Super Smash history. Earlier, Robinson struck 106 not out off 65 balls in a T20I against Australia at Mount Maunganui, stepping in as a late replacement for injured Rachin Ravindra.
Brisbane Heat coach James Hopes said the club was very excited to welcome Robinson to the Big Bash and called him a rising star in international cricket.
“Tim is a rising star of international cricket, and the BBL will be a great opportunity for him to demonstrate his skills and ability for the Heat,’’ Hopes said in a media release from Brisbane Heat.
“He scores quickly, has excellent power, and is very strong in the field. We’ve signed him for the entire competition and think he will complement the playing group nicely,” he added.
Robinson also expressed his enthusiasm about joining Brisbane Heat, as he thanked the management for signing him.
“How good! I reckon everyone wants to play in the Big Bash. We pretended our backyard was the Gabba as kids and used to hit it into the neighbours, so fair to say I’m pretty excited to play there, and at all the other awesome grounds. Thanks to the team at the Heat for the opportunity. Can’t wait to get there,” Robinson said.

Robinson’s path to the Big Bash
Robinson has developed his cricket under coaching from Shane Jurgensen, a former Queensland Bulls pace bowler, during his time at Wellington. He has also featured in Major League Cricket and the Caribbean Premier League, gaining exposure to high-quality T20 competition. Tom Curran joins Robinson as a fellow first-time international recruit for Brisbane in BBL|16.
