Lhuan-dre Pretorius becomes youngest full-member T20I centurion

Lhuan-dre Pretorius struck his maiden T20I century to help South Africa beat Namibia by 11 runs in the T20I Tri-series at the Namibia Cricket Ground in Windhoek on September 4, 2026. In doing so, the 20-year-old became the youngest player to score a T20I century among full-member nations.

Pretorius reached the milestone at the age of 20 years and 161 days, surpassing the previous record held by Afghanistan’s Hazratullah Zazai, who scored his maiden T20I century at the age of 20 years and 337 days. The South Africa opener was eventually bowled for 101, with South Africa finishing on 228/4.

The century was Pretorius’s third T20I half-century converted into a landmark innings. He brought up his fifty in the 11th over and went on to hit five fours and eight sixes during his knock. The exact ball count for his century remains subject to a discrepancy between sources and has been withheld from this article pending editorial verification.

How did the South Africa innings unfold against Namibia?

Pretorius and Connor Esterhuizen gave South Africa a commanding platform at the top of the order, putting on 156 runs for the opening wicket. Esterhuizen was the more aggressive of the two early on, scoring 88 off just 40 balls and hitting eight sixes before his dismissal.

With that foundation in place, Pretorius continued to accelerate and carried his innings deep into the South Africa total. The Proteas eventually posted 228/4, a score that proved just enough to defend on the day.

Namibia’s reply began at a breathtaking pace, with Jan Frylinck and Louren Steenkamp racing to 67 without loss during the powerplay. However, South Africa held their nerve through the middle and death overs to secure the 11-run victory.

What does this result mean for South Africa in the Tri-series?

The win over Namibia confirmed South Africa’s place in the final of the Namibia T20I Tri-Series 2026. South Africa are set to meet Zimbabwe in the title clash on Sunday.

Pretorius had already shown strong form earlier in the tournament, scoring a career-best 94 off 51 balls in South Africa’s 43-run win over Zimbabwe on September 2, 2026. His performances across the two matches have placed him among the standout batters of the series.

South Africa will now look to carry that batting momentum into the final against Zimbabwe, with Pretorius having established himself as a key contributor at the top of the order throughout the tournament.
