A moment of individual brilliance lit up Lord’s Cricket Ground on August 27, 2026, when substitute fielder Salman Ali Agha produced a one-handed catch at second slip to send back England batter Jordan Cox during the first day of the second Test between England and Pakistan. The dismissal came in the 47.1st over off the bowling of Khurram Shahzad, and it immediately drew a reaction from the Pakistan players on the field.

Khurram Shahzad bowled a fuller-length, seam-up delivery that moved off the pitch and found the outside edge as Cox was drawn into a drive. Cox had made 55 off 105 balls, striking seven fours, before the catch brought his innings to a close. He and Jamie Smith had added 67 runs for the sixth wicket, steadying England’s innings before the partnership was broken.

Agha was not in Pakistan’s playing XI because Babar Azam returned from a finger injury for this match, replacing stand-in skipper Salman Agha, who had led the side in the previous game. Babar’s return was the only change to either side for the second Test.

Day 1 bowling and England’s close

Pakistan had won the toss and elected to bowl first after losing an hour of play to rain. Only 56 overs were possible on the opening day due to the delayed start and an early finish because of bad light. England closed Day 1 on 248/9.

Mohammad Abbas was the standout bowler for Pakistan, finishing with 4/56. Mohammad Ali claimed 3/67 and also struck twice in the same over, removing Smith for 61 and Ollie Robinson for a duck to leave England at 222/8. Khurram Shahzad was credited with Cox’s wicket.

England entered the second Test leading the series 1-0. The match is being played at Lord’s, where Abbas had taken eight wickets and was named player of the match when Pakistan last won a Test at the venue in 2018. The second day’s play will determine whether Pakistan can bowl England out cheaply and build on their Day 1 effort.
