A chaotic mix-up between Yashasvi Jaiswal and KL Rahul brought an abrupt end to Jaiswal’s innings during the 1st Test between India and Sri Lanka at Galle International Cricket Stadium on August 15, 2026. The two batters found themselves stranded at the bowling end simultaneously, leaving Jaiswal with no ground to make and no option but to walk off, dismissed.

The runout has got the netizens talking. As Rahul nudged the ball towards the leg side and looked to rotate the strike, Jaiswal lost his balance after a minor bump with the bowler, which distracted him from looking towards his partner. Eventually, confusion happened, and Jaiswal had no clue whatsoever, only to find himself fall short of the crease.

Jaiswal’s history of run-outs from mix-ups

This is not the first time Jaiswal has been dismissed through a mix-up with a batting partner. During the 4th Border-Gavaskar Trophy Test in Melbourne on December 27, 2024, a similar situation arose when both Jaiswal and Virat Kohli ended up at the same end, resulting in Jaiswal being run out for 82 off 118 balls, which included 11 fours and one six. On October 11, 2025, Jaiswal was run out for 175 after a mix-up with Shubman Gill on Day 2 of the second Test against West Indies at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi.

Across 46 prior Test meetings between India and Sri Lanka, India hold a commanding head-to-head record of 22 wins to Sri Lanka’s seven, with 17 draws. Meanwhile, the hosts’ spin attack at Galle is spearheaded by left-arm spinner Prabath Jayasuriya, who is expected to exploit the venue’s traditionally spin-friendly and deteriorating surface. The 2nd Test of the series is scheduled to be played at Colombo’s SSC Ground.

The match is the 1st Test of a two-match India tour of Sri Lanka series and also marks the 50th Test played at Galle International Cricket Stadium. The Indians are being led by Shubman Gill, with Rahul serving as his deputy, while the Lankan Lions have Dhananjaya de Silva at their helm. The contest is part of the ICC World Test Championship 2025-2027 cycle, with India entering fifth in the standings at a points conversion percentage of 48.15 and Sri Lanka placed sixth.
