LPL 2026, M5: Colombo Kaps Predicted XI and Team News

LPL 2026, M5 Colombo Kaps Predicted XI and Team News

The Colombo Kaps (CK) will be eager to build momentum in the Lanka Premier League (LPL) 2026 when they take on the Kandy Royals (KR) in Match 5 at the Sinhalese Sports Club, Colombo, on Sunday, July 19. Here’s a look at Colombo Kaps’ predicted playing XI for the contest:

Top-order: Kusal Mendis (wk), Kushal Bhurtel, Kamindu Mendis

Captain Kusal Mendis is expected to open the innings and lead from the front. One of Sri Lanka’s most dependable white-ball batters, Mendis has the ability to anchor the innings while also scoring at a brisk pace. His experience at the top of the order will be crucial in providing Colombo with a solid platform.

Partnering him is likely to be Nepal opener Kushal Bhurtel, who is known for his fearless approach. Bhurtel likes to attack the new ball and can put the opposition bowlers under pressure right from the start.

At No. 3, Kamindu Mendis is expected to play a key role. The left-handed all-rounder has established himself as a reliable batter capable of adapting to different match situations. He can rotate the strike effectively, accelerate when needed, and also chip in with useful overs if required.

Middle-order: Janith Liyanage, Ben McDermott, James Neesham, Movin Subasingha

The middle order is likely to revolve around Janith Liyanage, who has impressed with his composure in white-ball cricket. He can steady the innings if early wickets fall and has enough power to finish strongly.

Australian batter Ben McDermott adds plenty of experience to the lineup. Having played T20 leagues around the world, McDermott is an aggressive batter who can take on both pace and spin.

New Zealand all-rounder James Neesham is expected to be the team’s designated finisher. His ability to clear the ropes in the death overs makes him a valuable asset. Besides his batting, Neesham can also contribute with a few overs, giving the captain an extra bowling option.

Young all-rounder Movin Subasingha is likely to slot in at No. 7. He provides additional balance to the side with his ability to contribute in both departments and could play a handy supporting role.

Bowlers: Mujeeb Ur Rahman, Binura Fernando, Shahnawaz Dahani, Jeffrey Vandersay

Afghanistan spinner Mujeeb Ur Rahman is expected to spearhead the spin attack. His mystery spin and ability to bowl in the Powerplay make him one of the most dangerous bowlers in T20 cricket.

Left-arm pacer Binura Fernando is likely to share the new ball and will look to exploit any early movement on offer. His ability to swing the ball and bowl disciplined lines could prove vital.

Pakistan fast bowler Shahnawaz Dahani brings pace, aggression, and wicket-taking ability to the attack. He is expected to handle the middle and death overs, where his variations can make a significant impact.

Completing the bowling attack is veteran leg-spinner Jeffrey Vandersay, whose experience in Sri Lankan conditions makes him a key asset. His ability to break partnerships in the middle overs could be crucial as Colombo Kaps aim to register another important victory in the tournament.
