Henry Brookes leaves Middlesex to join Gloucestershire on a three-year deal

Gloucestershire have secured the services of Henry Brookes on a permanent basis ahead of the 2027 season. The right-arm pace bowler has penned a three-year contract which will keep him at the Bristol-based county until the end of the 2029 season.

Brookes joined Gloucestershire ahead of the 2026 season on a long deal, which was unfortunately cut short after two County Championship matches, and he was forced to return to Middlesex, where he played in a few 2nd XI matches. The 26-year-old will now return to the Glos at the end of the current season.

“I’m really excited to get started and to be working again with a few people at the Club that I’ve known from previous stages of my career. It’s been a quiet period for me, but I’m looking forward to getting back out on the pitch and showing people what I can do. I’m excited for what’s ahead and can’t wait to get going in Gloucestershire colours,” Henry Brookes said on Gloucestershire’s website.

Despite playing just twice, Brookes had a lasting impact on Gloucestershire in the County Championship. The right-handed batter scored 89 against Derbyshire away from home to record a 10-wicket victory, the highest score in his career.

Brookes made his professional debut for Warwickshire in the longest format of the game in 2017. He then moved to Middlesex ahead of the 2023 season. The all-rounder has since gone on to play 52 First-Class matches, taking 126 wickets along the way. He has also taken 63 wickets in T20 cricket and has the experience of playing in The Hundred in 2022, representing the Birmingham Phoenix.

Brookes has also scored 1,072 runs in First-Class cricket. Though he averages around 18 due to batting lower down the order, the right-hander has seven half-centuries to his name. His arrival could be a major boost for Gloucestershire next season as they currently find themselves at the foot of the County Championship Division Two standings with just 38 points from eight games.
