Ryan ten Doeschate set to move on from India coaching job after England ODIs

Indian men’s cricket team’s assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate is reportedly contemplating his departure from his role at the end of the three-match ODI series against England.

The former Netherlands international is yet to receive the green light from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and the head coach, Gautam Gambhir, but if cleared, could serve his last day in the Indian dressing room on July 19, the day of the third ODI against England at Lord’s.

As reported by Cricbuzz, ten Doeschate has informed the BCCI of his intention to relinquish his role, with multiple reasons behind his decision. It has been stated that the former Netherlands player wants to move on for personal reasons, with his three sons needing attention and his wife working. His desire to spend more time with his family in London is reportedly at the forefront of his reasons to step away from the role.

Ten Doeschate joined the Indian team two years ago and is understood to have completed the initial contract with the team, with his tenure reportedly having ended on July 12 – 14. With the team on tour, he would be set to stay till the end of the third ODI. The parting between the two parties is set to be amicable with mutual consent and does not have anything to do with issues related to job satisfaction

Ten Doeschate is believed to share a close personal and professional relationship with head coach Gambhir, who recommended the former to the BCCI for the position of assistant coach. Relying on ten Doeschate on several fronts, Gambhir could be reluctant to let go of his key assistant with questions raised over the recent results of the Indian side, including a 2-0 whitewash in Ireland and the 4-0 thrashing in England.

Changes have been speculated across Gambhir’s support staff after their recent results. India’s T20I team have lost six of their last seven games, with the seventh one being a washout since lifting the T20 World Cup in early March of this year.
