West Indies Women suffered a devastating defeat against Ireland Women in match No. 27 of the ongoing Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 at the County Ground in Bristol on Saturday, June 27. After this defeat, the West Indies’ qualification hopes will rest on whether England can beat New Zealand in the last match in Group B.

Ireland captain Gaby Lewis won the toss and opted to bowl first in testing batting conditions. While Qiana Joseph and Shemaine Campbelle perished cheaply, Hayley Matthews, Stafanie Taylor, and Deandra Dottin got stuck at the crease, failing to up the ante.

Chinelle Henry scored an unbeaten 27 off 21 balls at the back end of the innings to help the West Indies get to a fighting score of 128/7.

In reply, Lewis was dismissed in the fifth over after adding 26 runs alongside Amy Hunter. The partnership between Hunter and Orla Prendergast proved to be crucial as they added 62 runs off 53 balls to take their team to the brink.

The West Indies picked up three wickets in quick succession, but in the end, Rebecca Stokell and Louise Little took their team home with six wickets and 11 balls to spare. Prendergast top-scored with a remarkable 63 off 44 balls. This is Ireland’s first win in the Women’s T20 World Cups.

Best Batting Performance of the Match: Orla Prendergast

The 24-year-old Orla Prendergast showed maturity beyond her age when she walked out to bat in the fifth over. She mixed caution with aggression during her 63-run knock off 44 deliveries. The right-handed batter hit eight fours and two sixes during her innings.

Best Bowling Performance of the Match: Cara Murray

Cara Murray will remember the spell she bowled on Saturday for a very long time. The 25-year-old leg-spinner didn’t just pick up the critical wickets of Hayley Matthews and Jahzara Claxton, but she also gave away only 13 runs in her four-over spell.

Who won the Player of the Match award?

Orla Prendergast was fittingly awarded Player of the Match for her stunning all-round display. Not only did she score an important half-century with the bat, but she bowled four overs and gave away just 29 runs, while picking up one wicket.

When is the next match?

Ireland finished their campaign in the Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 at the bottom of the points table in Group B. However, the win on Saturday will do a world of good to their confidence as a cricketing nation. Meanwhile, the West Indies will hope that New Zealand lose their last match in the group stage against England.
