The Gujarat Titans (GT) made it through to their third Indian Premier League (IPL) after beating the Rajasthan Royals (RR) in Qualifier 2 at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium on Friday, May 29. They will now face the Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the showpiece final on home soil in Ahmedabad on Sunday.
Having won the toss and choosing to bat first, RR put 214 runs on the board, once again thanks to Vaibhav Sooryavanshi’s heroics with the bat. The 15-year-old got out in the 90s, but scored at a strike-rate of 204.26. He was nicely supported by Ravindra Jadeja, who hit an unbeaten 45, while Donovan Ferreira’s 11-ball 38 gave them a great finish to their innings.
However, the score was not enough, with the Titans chasing it down with relative ease. It was all down to the openers Shubman Gill and Sai Sudharsan. The left-hand, right-hand pair put on a 167-run partnership for the first wicket from just 77 balls. Captain Gill reached his maiden hundred of the season, scoring 104 off 53 balls, which included some mesmerising shots all across the ground. Sudharsan, on the other hand, managed to get to 58 off 32 balls before once again dropping his bat onto the stumps.
