Virat Kohli is always in a joyous mood, be it while batting or fielding, and he once again showed his funny side in the first innings during the Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s (RCB) away game against the Punjab Kings (PBKS) on Sunday, May 17.
Whilst batting, the 37-year-old played a defensive shot towards the point region where PBKS spinner Harpreet Brar was stationed. Kohli tried to take a quick single but was sent back by the non-striker. However, with the ball going to Brar, the right-handed batter purposely stayed out of the crease, inviting the fielder to throw the ball and try to get him run out. Brar, however, threw the ball back to the bowler, with Kohli then having a playful smile.

Brar had a great outing with the bowl in the first innings against RCB. The spinner took the wickets of opening batter Jacob Bethell and the in-form Devdutt Padikkal. The 30-year-old, however, did not have a fruitful tournament before the game against the defending champions. Before today, he had only played once all season long, with his brace being the tournament’s only wickets that he had taken. He ended his quota of four wickets, conceding 35 runs at an economy of 8.75.
Kohli, on the other hand, went on to score 58 off 37 balls before getting out to Brar’s spin partner Yuzvendra Chahal. The former India captain’s knock saw him once again surpass 500 runs in an IPL season. He currently averages 54.20 whilst striking at 164.74 to sit third in the Orange Cap leaderboard.
PBKS, meanwhile, suffered their sixth consecutive defeat in this season’s IPL after going down to the defending champions by 23 runs. RCB, on the other hand, have now accumulated 18 points from 13 matches and have booked their place in the playoffs.
