The Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) secured their first win in seven games as they defeated defending champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) at the Ekana International Stadium in Match 50 of the 2026 Indian Premier League (IPL) on Thursday, May 7.

Batting first on what can be a tricky Ekana pitch, LSG put 209 runs on the board from their quota of 19 runs. Mitchell Marsh’s 111 was the standout performance with the bat for the hosts, with captain Rishabh Pant chipping in with a useful cameo of 32 from just 10 balls.

In reply, RCB lost both Virat Kohli and Jacob Bethell early, which put them on the back foot from the get-go. Skipper Rajat Patidar, however, went to score a 31-ball 61 while Tim David chipped in with 40 off just 17 balls to keep RCB in the game. In the end, they fell short of the revised target by nine runs, thanks to some brilliant bowling by the seamers, particularly Prince Yadav, who ended up with three wickets.

Key Moments from the game:

1. Mitchell Marsh turns promise into performance

Despite LSG’s poor showing all season long, Mitchell Marsh has been their ray of hope with the bat. The Australian, however, had not performed well until today. The right-handed batter scored his second hundred in as many seasons, hitting 111 off 56 balls with nine fours and as many sixes to score at a strike-rate of 198.21.

2. ‘The King’ gets an unplayable delivery from ‘The Prince’

A lot of RCB hopes relied on Virat Kohli during this tricky run chase. The right-hander, however, was dismissed for a two-ball duck after receiving an unplayable delivery from Prince Yadav. The pace bowler bowled an excellent inswinging ball, which went through Kohli’s defence, uprooting the off stump. Yadav had a memorable outing against the might of RCB, taking three wickets.

3. Rishabh Pant’s all-important 10-ball cameo saves LSG

Rishabh Pant has been underwhelming to say the least in this season’s IPL. However, when his team needed him the most, the captain delivered. The left-handed batter scored 32 off just 10 balls towards the end, which took his side’s total to well above 200, which proved to be the difference between winning and losing for the home team.
