All-rounder Luke Wells signs new multi-year contract with Lancashire

All-rounder Luke Wells has penned a new multi-year contract with Lancashire County Cricket Club, keeping him at Old Trafford until the end of the 2028 season. 

Wells joined Lancashire from Sussex ahead of the 2021 season and has since gone on to play 148 times for the Red Rose County, scoring 5,708 runs and taking 109 wickets along the way. 

Wells expressed his excitement to continue playing for the Manchester-based county and will be hoping to lead his side to promotion to Division One of the Rothesay County Championship this summer. 

“I am delighted to extend my time with Lancashire. I have loved my time at Emirates Old Trafford and feel I’ve developed my game across all formats here. There’s a strong belief within the squad about what we can achieve since Crofty has taken over as Head Coach, and I’m excited to play my part in pushing for success over the next few years. We have had a strong winter which has led to a positive start in red ball cricket, my focus now is on getting back to full fitness as soon as possible and helping us achieve our goals,” Luke Wells was quoted as saying on Lancashire website. 

Wells had a decent start to the 2026 season. The 35-year-old, 87 and 40 in Lancashire’s first game of the new season against Northamptonshire. Since then, he has played two more matches in Division Two and picked up an unfortunate shoulder injury against Gloucestershire. The all-rounder is now set to undergo surgery in the coming week to be fit before the domestic season sees the start of the white-ball tournaments. 

Lancashire have made a great start to their Division Two campaign under the captaincy of James Anderson. The Roses are currently at the top of the standings, having accumulated 60 points from their first four matches of the red-ball tournament. These include two wins against Derbyshire and Gloucestershire.
