In a high-scoring encounter at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, Delhi, Punjab Kings scripted history as they chased down the target of 265 runs against Delhi Capitals in match 35 in IPL 2026. 

After winning the toss, DC skipper Axar Patel opted to bat first in this home fixture for them, and his batters did not disappoint. It was total carnage by the DC as batters as they scored 264/2 in their 20 overs. After losing Pathum Nissanka cheaply, the duo of Nitish Rana and KL Rahul stitched a historic 220-run partnership in just 95 balls. KL Rahul remained not out on 152, whereas Rana scored 91 in just 44 balls.

Only Arshdeep Singh and Xavier Bartlett were the successful bowlers for the visitors, as both of them picked up one wicket each.

Chasing a mammoth target, the PBKS had the exact start they wanted by their openers Prabhsimran Singh and Priyansh Arya. The young Indian duo blasted 116 runs in the powerplay. Arya got dismissed for 43 in 17 balls, whereas his partner was dismissed after scoring 76 in just 26 balls.

After that, it was all Shreyas Iyer show at Delhi, as the PBKS skipper smashed an unbeaten 71 runs off 35 balls to win the match.

Shashank Singh drops KL Rahul as opener makes PBKS pay

The Delhi opener was dropped on just 12 by Shashank Singh, and KL Rahul went on to score an unbeaten knock of 152 against Punjab Kings. It was a sensational innings by the veteran Indian batter. This also became the highest ever individual IPL score for an Indian batter. He was also involved in a historic 220-run partnership with Nitish Rana.


PBKS demolishes DC bowlers in the powerplay in reply

Chasing a mammoth target of 265, the PBKS openers, Prabhsimran Singh and Priyansh Arya came out all guns blazing, tearing PBKS bowling line-up apart. The duo smashed 116 runs in their powerplay, creating an IPL record. This now has become the second-highest powerplay score in IPL history, just behind SRH’s 125-run record.


Captain Shreyas takes his side home

After a little collapse in the middle-overs, the Punjab skipper Shreyas Iyer took the responsibility of this chase. Coming in to bat at number four, the Mumbai batter took his side over the line, making this the highest successful chase ever in IPL history. He remained not out on 71.
