The Chennai Super Kings (CSK) returned to winning ways after a comprehensive 103-run victory over the arch-rivals Mumbai Indians (MI) in Match 33 of the 2026 Indian Premier League (IPL).
MI captain Hardik Pandya won the toss and put CSK into bat. The visitors put 207 runs on the board from their quota of 20 overs, which was mainly down to Sanju Samson’s unbeaten 101. The right-handed batter scored 16 runs off the final over to register his second century of this season’s IPL.
In reply, MI had a night to forget after they were bundled out for just 104 in 19 overs. They had a terrible start to their innings, losing Danish Malewar, Quinton de Kock and Naman Dhir in quick succession to see them get restricted to 11 for 3. CSK’s spinners were on top of the opposition, not only picking timely wickets but putting breaks on the scoring as well. Akeal Hosein was the star with the ball, taking 4 for 17 from his four overs, while Noor Ahmad chipped in with two wickets.
As is the case with a majority of the games in the IPL, MI vs CSK saw teams break a plethora of records and players reach personal milestones of their own. However, not all records are positive in nature. With a heavy defeat, the Mumbai-based franchise found themselves on the wrong side of some very unenviable records in IPL history. Centurion Samson also reached a few personal landmarks this evening.
Here are the most important stats and milestones from Match 33:
- 103: Biggest win for CSK in IPL history
- 103: Biggest defeat for MI in IPL history
- 103: Biggest defeat for MI at Wankhede in terms of runs
