In the seventh match of the IPL 2026, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) will take on Punjab Kings (PBKS). Chennai Super Kings endured a disappointing campaign last season, and their struggles have continued into the current edition as well. They suffered an eight-wicket defeat against the Rajasthan Royals in their opening match. Batting first, Chennai’s top order failed to make an impact. However, the middle order played well as Jamie Overton provided some resistance with a crucial 43-run innings, helping the team post a modest total of 127. 

However, Rajasthan’s young batting lineup chased down the target comfortably in just 12.1 overs. Moving forward, Chennai will need to address both their batting inconsistencies and bowling deficiencies to improve their performance.

On the other hand, the Punjab Kings have carried forward their impressive form from last season into this tournament. They began their campaign with a three-wicket victory over the Gujarat Titans. Gujarat, batting first, set a target of 162 runs, which Punjab successfully chased down in the final over. The top order contributed effectively, with Prabhsimran Singh scoring 37 runs, while Cooper Connolly played a match-winning knock of 72. In the bowling department, Vijaykumar Vyshak delivered an excellent spell, claiming three wickets for 34 runs in four overs, while Yuzvendra Chahal chipped in with two wickets.

The MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai is usually a spin-friendly pitch. In T20 matches, the conditions don’t fully favour batsmen and fast bowlers because of the slow surface. Fielding first is often a better choice here, though chasing can also be competitive. Batsmen need to play cautiously to score well. The average first innings score in the IPL is about 160 here.
