New Zealand became the first team to qualify for the T20 World Cup 2026 final after a comfortable nine-wicket win over tournament favourites South Africa at Eden Gardens.
The game began for the BlackCaps when Cole McConchie picked two wickets in his only over to remove Quinton de Kock and Ryan Rickelton. Though Marco Jansen’s unbeaten 55 and a 73-run stand with Tristan Stubbs pushed them to 169/8, the total was under par.
In reply, Finn Allen and Tim Seifert tore into the chase, smashing 84 runs in the Powerplay and adding 117 for the opening wicket. Allen reached a record-breaking 33-ball century, finishing unbeaten on 100 as New Zealand raced to 173/1 in just 12.5 overs.

Cole McConchie delivered a dream spell against South Africa. Introduced early, the off-spinner struck twice in consecutive deliveries to leave South Africa struggling at 12 for 2. He first removed Quinton de Kock, who attempted to premeditate a pull after stepping away. McConchie cleverly dragged his length back, forcing a mistimed hit that went straight to mid-on. The very next ball, he dismissed Ryan Rickelton for a golden duck. Bowling short and wide, as the southpaw tempted the cut, only for himself to slice it straight to backward point.
