The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced the schedule for Afghanistan’s tour of India, which is set for June 2026. The Men in Blue will face the Blue Tigers in a one-off Test match followed by three ODIs.
The Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in Mullanpur is all set to host the red-ball fixture from June 6 to 10. This is going to be the first Test match which will be held at the venue.
On the other hand, the first three ODIs are scheduled to be held in Dharamsala, Lucknow, and Chennai on June 14, 17, and 20, respectively.
India are a powerhouse in world cricket. They are the current T20 World Cup holders and won the Champions Trophy last year. The Men in Blue are in contention to become the first-ever nation to successfully defend the T20 World Cup as they have reached the semi-final of the current edition. On Sunday, March 1, they defeated the West Indies to progress to the knockouts.
On the other hand, Afghanistan had a difficult campaign in the T20 World Cup. They had reached the semi-final of the tournament in the previous edition in 2024. However, this time, they bowed out in the group stage after suffering defeats to New Zealand and South Africa.
In ODI cricket, India and Afghanistan have played four games so far. The Men in Blue have won three out of these matches, while one ended in a tie. On the other hand, these two teams have faced each other only once in Test cricket. In 2018, they faced each other at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, where India won by an innings and 262 runs.
