The Mumbai Cricket Association has taken a major step towards strengthening the women’s cricket structure in the city by officially launching the Women’s T20 Mumbai League, set to begin on June 1. Modelled on the successful men’s T20 Mumbai League, the new franchise-based competition looks to provide a platform exclusively for women cricketers from Mumbai.

The inaugural edition is tentatively scheduled to run from June 1 to 15, immediately after the conclusion of the IPL season. The tournament will feature three teams and a total of seven matches. The MCA has already sold three franchises, generating over INR 4 crore in revenue. PRS Infraprojects LLP emerged as the highest bidder with INR 2.25 crore, followed by Roadway Solution India Infra Ltd at INR 1.09 crore, and World Star Sporting Private Limited at INR 79 lakh. The successful bidders will officially operate the three teams, subject to completion of formalities and approval by the T20 Mumbai Governing Council.

MCA President Ajinkya Naik described the response to the bidding process as an endorsement of the association’s long-term vision for women’s cricket. According to Naik, the league will serve as a crucial platform for emerging talent and help further strengthen Mumbai’s cricket.

“The overwhelming response to the bidding process for the T20 Mumbai Women’s League is a strong endorsement of our vision to elevate women’s cricket in Mumbai. The participation of reputed corporate groups reflects the growing commercial confidence in the women’s game. We are committed to building a competitive and professionally managed league that provides a robust platform for emerging talent,” Ajinkya Naik, the MCA president, said.

The competition will be limited to players from Mumbai, a city that has nearly 55 affiliated cricket clubs. The MCA is also planning to conduct a player auction to ensure a transparent selection process.

The league is expected to feature three icon players, subject to availability, including Jemimah Rodrigues, Saima Thakor, and Sayali Satghare. Their inclusion would not only boost the tournament’s profile but also inspire young cricketers across the city. T20 Mumbai League Governing Council Chairman Rajdip Gupta called the successful bidding process an important milestone. He noted that the strong financial backing displays the league’s potential.

“The successful conclusion of the bidding process marks an important milestone for the T20 Mumbai Women’s League. The strong bids received underline the league’s credibility and potential. We look forward to working closely with the franchise owners to deliver a high-quality tournament that showcases the depth of women’s cricketing talent in Mumbai,” Rajdip Gupta, the T20 Mumbai League Governing Council Chairman, said.
