Australia Women secured a six-wicket victory over India Women in the first ODI on February 24 at Allan Border Field, Brisbane. Batting first, India Women were bowled out for 214 in 48.3 overs. Opener Smriti Mandhana anchored the innings with a composed 58, while captain Harmanpreet Kaur contributed a steady 53 to stabilise the middle order. For the Australia Women, Ashleigh Gardner was the standout performer with the ball, claiming three crucial wickets. Megan Schutt provided excellent support, picking up two wickets.

In response, Australia chased down the 215-run target comfortably in 38.2 overs. Captain Alyssa Healy laid the foundation with a brisk 50 at the top of the order. Beth Mooney then guided the innings with a fluent 76, as the hosts cruised to victory with more than 11 overs to spare. India’s bowling effort lacked penetration, though Shree Charani impressed with figures of 2/41.

Australia Women wicketkeeper-batter Beth Mooney was the top batting performer of the match. She scored 76 off 79 balls, striking five fours and two sixes at a strike rate of 96.20. Mooney built a crucial 64-run partnership for the third wicket with Alyssa Healy, which came off 77 balls and steadied the chase. She then added another significant stand of 85 runs for the fourth wicket with Annabel Sutherland off 80 balls, guiding Australia closer to victory with a composed and controlled innings.


Top Bowling performance of the match – Ashleigh Gardner

Ashleigh Gardner was the top bowling performer of the match. She delivered an impressive spell, returning figures of 3/33 in seven overs at an excellent economy rate of 4.70. Gardner struck at crucial moments, dismissing Jemimah Rodrigues, Harmanpreet Kaur, and Kranti Gaud to put India under sustained pressure. By taking wickets at regular intervals, she tightened her grip on the Indian batting line-up and played a key role in restricting them to a manageable total.

Beth Mooney won the Player of the Match award for her brilliant knock and two crucial partnerships that helped Australia Women successfully chase down the target set by India Women.
