The T20 World Cup 2026 is currently underway from February 7 to March 8, with the group stage entering its final phase. Seven teams have already secured qualification for the next round, and India are among those to have sealed a Super Eight berth. The Men in Blue booked their place with convincing victories over Namibia, Pakistan, and the United States of America.

India and Sri Lanka are co-hosting the marquee tournament, which features 20 teams battling for global supremacy. India entered the competition as defending champions, having lifted the trophy in 2024 after defeating South Africa in the final held across the West Indies and the USA. If they go on to win this edition, India will become the first team in history to claim the T20 World Cup title three times.

India began their campaign against the USA, posting 161/9 in 20 overs. Captain Suryakumar Yadav anchored the innings with a crucial unbeaten 84 off 49 balls after the team lost six wickets in quick succession. Shadley van Schalkwyk impressed with figures of 4/25, but India’s bowlers responded strongly, restricting the USA to 132. Mohammed Siraj led the attack with 3/29.

In their second outing against Namibia, India piled up 209 runs, with Ishan Kishan scoring 61 and Hardik Pandya contributing 52. Namibia captain Gerhard Erasmus claimed 4/20, but the chase never gained momentum as Namibia were bowled out for 116. Varun Chakravarthy starred with 3/7 in just two overs.

India’s most recent clash saw them defeat arch-rivals Pakistan by 61 runs. Posting 175/7, powered by Ishan’s 77, India once again delivered a disciplined bowling performance to bowl Pakistan out for 114. They will conclude their group stage against the Netherlands on February 18 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
