Monank Patel gave the USA a brilliant start in their T20 World Cup fixture against the Netherlands at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Friday, February 13.
Off the second ball of the fourth over, the USA captain played a sumptuous straight drive past Logan van Beek. He held his pose with a high elbow for the photographers. The ball rolled along the ground past mid-off and reached the boundary in no time.
Monank was eventually dismissed for a 22-ball 36. Saiteja Mukkamalla and Shubham Ranjane scored 79 and 48*, respectively, as the USA finished on 196/6 after being asked to bat first by the Netherlands.
In reply, the Dutch side lost wickets in clusters, and only Bas de Leede and Scott Edwards managed to put up some sort of resilience. The Netherlands were bowled out for 103, losing the match by 93 runs. This turned out to be the first defeat for the Netherlands against the USA in seven meetings across formats.
