T20 World Cup history: Top three wicket takers for England

England are among the favourites heading into the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026, co-hosted by India and Sri Lanka. The two-time champions will begin their campaign against Nepal on February 8 at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. Placed in Group C alongside West Indies, Scotland, Nepal, and Italy, England will be confident of progressing deep into the tournament and aiming to become the first nation to win the Men’s T20 World Cup three times.

The English squad boasts a potent bowling attack with Sam Curran, Jofra Archer, Adil Rashid, Josh Tongue, Will Jacks, and Jacob Bethell. This combination of pace, swing, and spin gives them the ability to dominate in all phases of the game, from powerplays to the death overs. England’s bowlers will be key to their campaign, aiming to complement the team’s explosive batting and secure crucial early victories.

Here is a look at the top three wicket-takers for England in T20 World Cup history:

Adil Rashid

Adil Rashid

Adil Rashid played a crucial role in establishing leg-spin as a key weapon for England in white-ball cricket. When he emerged in 2015, English cricket had long struggled to produce consistent leg-spinners in limited-overs formats. Rashid quickly became the country’s leading spinner, and over the next decade, he took more than 300 wickets in white-ball cricket.

He made his international debut in the 2009 ICC World T20, featuring in all four of England’s matches that year. Rashid was also instrumental in England reaching the final of the 2016 World T20 and the semi-final of the 2017 Champions Trophy. In T20 Internationals overall, he has claimed 150 wickets, while in T20 World Cups, he has taken 31 wickets in 30 matches at an average of 19.20.

Chris Jordan has carved a niche as one of England’s most reliable death bowlers in T20 cricket. The right-arm pacer is known for his calm temperament and lethal yorkers and has often been entrusted with bowling in the final overs, where he has delivered crucial breakthroughs. He earned his place in England’s white-ball setup following the 2013-14 Ashes tour and made a significant impact during the 2016 World T20 in India.

One of his most memorable contributions came in the final, where he conceded only eight runs in the 19th over, demonstrating his skill under pressure. Jordan has been a mainstay in England’s T20 side, taking 108 wickets in T20Is overall, including 31 wickets in 23 T20 World Cup matches.

Stuart Broad

While Stuart Broad is better known for his exploits in Test cricket alongside James Anderson, he has also contributed significantly in the T20 format. Broad’s aggression, ability to extract bounce, and tactical acumen made him an effective bowler in limited-overs cricket. He led England’s T20 side on 27 occasions between 2011 and 2015 and continued to play a key role in their World T20 campaigns.

Despite famously being hit for six sixes by Yuvraj Singh in the inaugural 2007 World T20, Broad’s stature as a match-winner remained intact. In T20 Internationals, he has taken 65 wickets, with 30 of those coming in 26 T20 World Cup matches.
