In an exclusive interaction with CricTracker, South Africa pacer Wayne Parnell shared his predictions for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026. Parnell named Indian captain Suryakumar Yadav as his pick for the highest run-scorer of the tournament. One of the most destructive batters in world cricket, Suryakumar has amassed 3,114 runs in 105 T20Is at an exceptional strike rate of 165.63. Parnell highlighted Suryakumar’s ability to perform under pressure. More recently, he scored 84 against the USA at the Wankhede Stadium in India’s opening match, where he anchored the innings after early setbacks and guided the team to a competitive total.

Most Wickets – Romario Shepherd/Varun Chakravarthy

Parnell backed West Indies all-rounder Romario Shepherd as one of the leading wicket-takers of the tournament. He pointed out Shepherd’s ability to bowl at all phases of the innings, making him a valuable asset in T20 cricket. Recently, Shepherd claimed a five-wicket haul, including a hat-trick, against Scotland at Eden Gardens in Kolkata.

Parnell also tipped Indian mystery spinner Varun Chakravarthy as a potential top wicket-taker. Chakravarthy has been impressive in T20Is, having taken 60 wickets in just 37 matches. He picked one wicket against the USA in India’s opening game.

Parnell tipped India to lift the T20 World Cup 2026 trophy, citing home conditions, explosive batting, and a well-rounded bowling attack as key factors. India will be led by Suryakumar Yadav with the presence of Abhishek Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah, Hardik Pandya and Rinku Singh and has high chance to lift it third time.
