Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) abruptly cancelled the national team’s ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 kit launch, adding to the speculation over the country’s participation in the tournament. The kit unveiling, scheduled to take place during the ongoing T20I series against Australia, was called off citing unavoidable circumstances.

The PCB had planned to unveil Pakistan’s official T20 World Cup jersey immediately after the toss of the second T20I against Australia. However, moments before the scheduled reveal, the board postponed the event without providing a detailed explanation. While the PCB officially maintained silence, citing logistical reasons, sources indicated that the cancellation was directly linked to the absence of formal clearance from Pakistan’s Foreign Office regarding participation in the tournament.

Pakistan to play all their games in Sri Lanka

Meanwhile, Pakistan’s participation in the T20 World Cup 2026 remains uncertain, primarily due to diplomatic and administrative considerations. The board has stated that it will follow the guidance from the Government of Pakistan, particularly the Foreign Office, which is expected to announce a final decision on Monday.

The situation increased following Bangladesh’s withdrawal from the tournament after the ICC declined their request to shift matches away from India. Pakistan subsequently entered a wait-and-watch mode, with reports suggesting the PCB was evaluating all options, including a possible boycott or selective non-participation.

However, the PCB has already scheduled the Pakistan squad to depart for Colombo on February 2. All of Pakistan’s World Cup fixtures, including the final if they qualify, are set to be played in Sri Lanka under an existing ICC agreement that places India-Pakistan matches at neutral venues until 2027.

The board had shown its support for Bangladesh’s security concerns. However, officials are wary of taking any step that could weaken Pakistan’s standing within the ICC framework. With no travel to India required and neutral venues in place, the grounds for a boycott look increasingly thin from a logistical perspective.
