Pakistan offers to host Bangladesh fixtures in T20 World Cup 2026

Pakistan offers to host Bangladesh fixtures in T20 World Cup 2026

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has reportedly expressed its readiness to provide venues for Bangladesh’s fixtures in the upcoming ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 in the event the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) decides not to play by travelling to India in the middle of ongoing geopolitical chaos between the two countries.

According to reports, the PCB has conveyed to cricketing authorities that Pakistan’s international-standard venues are available if the need arises. The development comes amid Bangladesh’s request to the International Cricket Council to shift their scheduled matches of the 20-team tournament out of India, citing security concerns following recent cross-border political and diplomatic tensions.

Bangladesh are scheduled to play their first three group-stage matches at Eden Gardens Stadium in Kolkata and their last match at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai in India as part of the tournament, which is being co-hosted by India and Sri Lanka from February 7 to March 8, 2026. However, the BCB formally approached the ICC seeking relocation of their matches to a neutral venue, preferably co-hosts Sri Lanka.

A Daily Ausaf report indicated that if the venues in Sri Lanka are unavailable or unable to accommodate additional fixtures, Pakistan has expressed interest and offered its venues. Venues in Karachi and Rawalpindi have been identified as potential options, with the home board stating that all logistical and security requirements can be met if requested by the ICC.

The organizers have so far stated that it is reviewing Bangladesh’s concerns and remains in discussions with the concerned board regarding the security arrangements. The BCB, however, has maintained that its position remains unchanged while formal communication from the apex cricket authority is pending.

Meanwhile, the ICC has publicly stated that it found no immediate security threats following its assessment and has not officially approved any venue changes at this stage. No final decision has been announced regarding the relocation of Bangladesh’s matches.

The PCB’s offer adds another option for the ICC as it navigates the situation, especially if Bangladesh continues to stand firm on not travelling to India. Pakistan has previously hosted ICC events, the latest being Champions Trophy in 2025. The ICC is expected to continue consultations with all stakeholders before making a final determination on the matter, as the countdown to the T20 World Cup continues.
