Top 3 performances of Tim Southee in ODIs

Top 3 performances of Tim Southee in ODIs

Tim Southee in ODIs was one of the best fast bowlers of his generation. He was not the quickest in the circuit, but his accuracy and ability to swing the ball both ways made him lethal. On that note, we take a look at three of his best performances in ODI cricket.

3. 6/65 vs Bangladesh (February 2019)

New Zealand posted 330/6 in the third ODI against Bangladesh at the University Oval in Dunedin on February 20, 2019. In reply, the Bangla Tigers were bowled out for 242 in 47.2 overs despite Sabbir Rahman’s fighting century. Southee was the pick of the bowlers for New Zealand, as he finished with figures of 6/65 in 9.2 overs, including one maiden. In the first over itself, he dismissed Tamim Iqbal and Soumya Sarkar to set the tone for the Kiwis.

2. 5/33 vs Pakistan (January 2011)

Tim Southee was in red-hot form during the first ODI between New Zealand and Pakistan at the Westpac Stadium in Wellington on January 22, 2011. He bagged a five-for, giving away just 33 runs in 9.3 overs. The right-arm pacer dismissed five out of Pakistan’s top seven batters. Chasing a modest 125-run target, New Zealand romped home in just 17.2 overs. Southee was fitting adjudged Player of the Match.

1. 7/33 vs England (February 2015)

Southee’s best figures in international cricket came in New Zealand’s 2015 ODI World Cup clash against England on February 20 at the Westpac Stadium in Wellington. He gave the Kiwis just the kind of start they would have wanted, as he sent openers Ian Bell and Moeen Ali packing. Overall, Southee bagged seven wickets for just 33 runs at an economy rate of 3.66 in nine overs. In reply, New Zealand reached the paltry target in just 12.2 overs.
