The Board of Control for Cricket in India and the Pakistan Cricket Board held an informal meeting in Dubai for close to an hour during the recently-concluded board meeting of the International Cricket Council (ICC). Notably, the main topic of discussion during this one-on-one between BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia and PCB’s Mohsin Maqvi was to settle the long-pending debate of the trophy impasse for the 2025 Asia Cup.

India had emerged victorious at the continental tournament and refused to accept the trophy from Naqvi, also the Asian Cricket Council President. As a result, the ceremony did not proceed as planned, and later, Naqvi reportedly locked the trophy in his private cabin. Things took a heated turn as Naqvi was hell-bent on presenting the trophy himself, but now, this was issue was discussed at the recent meet, as disclosed by Saikia.

“Since the meeting was formally not on the ICC agenda, they facilitated an informal meeting between myself representing BCCI and PCB chairperson Mohsin Naqvi. We met for an hour. Both sides are very positive to work out a solution to this stalemate. We are working on various options which will be provided by both sides in the coming days. With a positive attitude, I am confident we will be able to settle sooner than expected,” Saikia was quoted as saying by Hindustan Times.

With what the BCCI Secretary said, it can be confirmed that the arch-rivals may finally settle for a middle-ground to end the fight on the trophy row. However, it still remains to be seen whether the players from each side will be engaging in a handshake before or after the match at multinational events.

Speaking of India vs Pakistan, the next immediate clash between the fierce rivals is expected to be held during the upcoming 2026 T20 World Cup. While the Indian team will play all their matches at home, they are bound to travel to Colombo in Sri Lanka to face-off against Pakistan. For the unversed, Sri Lanka is the co-host for the tournament alongside India and will be scheduling its games in Kandy as well.
