OTD Jason Holder was born in 1991

West Indies all-rounder Jason Omar Holder was born in Barbados on November 5, 1991. At the age of 23, the 6’7″ fast-bowling all-rounder was named ODI captain in 2014. Holder had played just one first-class match before being called up for the 2010 Under-19 World Cup in New Zealand, where he led the team’s bowling attack with 12 wickets.

Holder made his international debut in Australia in 2013, and his first Test appearance came against New Zealand in Bridgetown in June 2014, where he impressed with both bat and ball. Initially, there were doubts about his ability to lead a side filled with senior players, but he quickly proved his critics wrong.

He scored his maiden Test century against England in April 2015, batting for over three and a half hours to help West Indies save the match.

He continued to impress, notably against Australia, where he top-scored for West Indies in the Kingston Test. In 2017, during the memorable Test win at Headingley, Holder contributed with three wickets and crucial runs.

His finest moment as captain came once again against England when he smashed a career-best 202 on his home ground in Barbados, steering his team to a rare and dominant Test win. After that series, Holder briefly held the No. 1 all-rounder spot in the ICC rankings.

Holder captained West Indies in the 2015 and 2019 ODI World Cups, and though results did not go their way, he remained a respected leader. He was also part of the 2016 T20 World Cup squad under Daren Sammy.

In franchise cricket, he represented multiple teams in the IPL and was part of the Barbados Tridents to CPL titles in 2014 and 2019, latter as the captain.

In recognition of his leadership during the Covid-19 pandemic, Holder received the 2021 ICC Spirit of Cricket Award. So far, he has scored 3073 runs and taken 162 wickets in 69 Tests, 2237 runs and 159 wickets in 138 ODIs, and 702 runs and 94 wickets in T20Is, continuing to serve as one of West Indies’ finest all-rounders.
