OTD: Brad Haddin was born in 1977

Australian keeper-batter Brad Haddin was born in 1977 on this day, October 23, in Cowra, New South Wales. He joined the New South Wales Blues in 1999-2000 for further cricketing opportunities and remained the second-best keeper for Australia behind Adam Gilchrist.

With consistent runs and brilliant showing with the keeping gloves, Haddin made his Australia debut in ODIs in 2001 and T20I debut in 2006. However, he had to wait until Adam Gilchrist’s retirement in 2008 to make his Test debut.

Haddin was part of the Australian team that won the 2007 and 2015 ICC World Cups. He made 3266 runs at an average of 32.98 in 66 Tests, including four centuries and 18 fifties, with the best score of 169.

Haddin made 3122 runs at an average of 31.53, including two centuries and 16 fifties, with the best score of 110, in ODIs. He also made 402 runs with a strike rate of 114.52 in 34 T20I matches for Australia.

He represented Kolkata Knight Riders in IPL 2011 and played in for the Sydney Sixers in the Big Bash League. He also featured in the Pakistan Super League (PSL).

Haddin retired from ODIs after Australia’s 2015 World Cup win, while his Test career was ended by head coach Lehmann in July 2015, after he missed the second Ashes Test due to his ill daughter.

Since retirement, Haddin has moved into coaching and was the fielding coach of Australia in 2018. He was the assistant coach of Sunrisers Hyderabad in IPL from 2019 to 2022. He is currently the assistant coach of the Punjab Kings franchise from IPL 2022 onwards.
