The legendary Ravichandran Ashwin is widely regarded for his cricketing smarts, but he recently showcased his alertness when a scammer, impersonating Australian spinner Adam Zampa, tried to put him in a spot of bother.

The scammer asked for contact details of Indian cricketers, Abhishek Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah, Sanju Samson, Jitesh Sharma, Rinku Singh, and Shivam Dube through WhatsApp. Ashwin subsequently received a call, possibly intended to expedite things.

Ashwin replied to the text, asking whether the players mentioned were enough. The scammer replied, saying, “Yes bro”. The former India spinner asked whether he had MS Dhoni’s number. The impostor gave a number saved as MS Dhoni Indian Cricketer. Ashwin was subsequently asked to send the contacts of all the players he had. The 39-year-old hilariously said that he is compiling the contacts in an Excel sheet and will send them soon.

Ashwin screen-recorded the chat from his phone and posted it on his official Instagram account with the caption: “Fake Adam Zampa tries to strike”.

Ashwin returns to action in December

Ashwin, who retired from all forms of IPL after the 2025 edition of the tournament, will return to competitive cricket during the Big Bash League (BBL), which begins in December. He will be playing for Sydney Thunder in the eight-team competition.

After going unsold at the ILT20 auction in Dubai, Ashwin will be available to play the entire duration of the BBL. The Chennai-born will become the first capped Indian male player to participate in the competition.

Ashwin finished his illustrious international career after picking up 537, 156, and 72 wickets in 106 Tests, 116 ODIs, and 65 T20Is, respectively. He also slammed six Test centuries, including a highest score of 124 against the West Indies in 2013 at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata. Fans will be waiting with bated breath to watch the experienced campaigner playing Down Under later this year in the 15th edition of the BBL.
