AUS vs IND 2025 Australia vs India Highlights & Result – 1st ODI

Who won today’s match? — Match result & turning points

Australia defeated India by seven wickets in the first ODI of the three-match series on Sunday, October 19, at Optus Stadium, Perth. India managed 136/9 in a rain-interrupted game reduced to 26 overs. According to the DLS method, Australia’s revised target was 131 runs.

For India, KL Rahul top-scored with 38 off 31 balls, while the Australian bowling attack was led by Josh Hazlewood, Mitchell Owen, and Matt Kuhnemann, who took two wickets each. Australia chased down the target comfortably in 21.1 overs, with captain Mitchell Marsh remaining unbeaten on 46 off 52 balls. None of the Indian bowlers were able to make a significant impact on the match.

Top batting performances of the match — Mitchell Marsh

Australian skipper Mitchell Marsh dominated the Indian bowling attack from the outset. He kept the scoreboard ticking, hitting at least one boundary in every over. Marsh finished unbeaten on 46 from 52 balls, including two fours and three sixes, guiding Australia comfortably across the finishing line.

Best bowling spells — Josh Hazlewood

Australian pacer Josh Hazlewood troubled the Indian batters from the start of his spell, consistently hitting the deck hard. He finished with impressive figures of 2/20 in seven overs, including two maiden overs. Hazlewood dismissed Rohit Sharma, caught by Matt Renshaw at second slip, and Indian vice-captain Shreyas Iyer, who was caught by Josh Philippe.

Records Broken and Major Milestones Achieved

The first ODI between Australia and India also marked former Indian captain Rohit Sharma’s 500th international appearance for the Men in Blue. Returning to action after seven months since his last ODI in the Champions Trophy 2025, Rohit struggled in the opening match of the series, managing just eight runs before being dismissed.

Australian skipper Mitchell Marsh, who smashed three sixes in the opening ODI in Perth, became the eighth Australian player to hit 100 or more sixes in ODIs. He currently has 102 sixes in the 50-over format for his country.

Who was the Player of the Match?

Australian captain Mitchell Marsh was awarded the Player of the Match for his unbeaten 46 from 52 balls, which included two fours and three sixes. Marsh cleared the ropes off each of India’s pacers, pulling Arshdeep Singh over deep square leg, hitting Mohammed Siraj over deep cover, and dispatching Harshit Rana over deep cover, to guide Australia to a comfortable 1-0 lead in the three-match series.

Unforgettable match moments

Former Indian captain Virat Kohli endured a forgettable outing in the first ODI, dismissed for a duck by Mitchell Starc off a brilliant catch by Cooper Connolly. In 30 ODI innings on Australian soil, this marked Kohli’s first-ever duck. This defeat also marked India’s first-ever ODI loss in 2025, ending their eight-match winning streak.

What is the next match?

After winning the opening fixture, the hosts currently lead the three-match series 1-0. They will aim to seal the series with a victory in the second match, while the Men in Blue will look to level the series before the third and final game. The second ODI between the two sides is scheduled for Thursday, October 23, at the Adelaide Oval.
