Gautam Gambhir made his Test debut in November 2004 against Australia. He played a total of 58 Tests for India and made 4154 runs at an average of 41.95. He scored nine centuries in his international red-ball career. Gambhir’s best performance in a year came in 2008, when he amassed 1134 runs in eight games at an average of 70.87. He was the second-highest run-scorer for India that year.

1. 206 vs Australia, Delhi (2008)

India won the toss and elected to bat in the third Test match of the 2008 Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Delhi. Gambhir opened the innings for India and scored his only double-century in Test cricket, as he made 206 runs off 380 deliveries and became the fourth Indian batter to score a double-century at the venue. He is the only Indian opener who has made a double-century at this venue.

2. 179 vs England, Mohali (2008)

India and England met in the second Test in Mohali during the 2008 England tour. Gambhir scored 179 runs in the first innings in what was one of the three centuries he scored that year. Gambhir made 97 runs In the second innings and deservedly won the Player of the Match award. The match ended in a draw, and India won the two-match series by 1-0.

3. 167 vs New Zealand, Wellington (2009)

In 2009, India travelled to New Zealand to play a three-match Test series. In the third Test match was played at Wellington, Gambhir made 23 runs in the first innings but followed that with 167 in the second to win the Player of the Match award for his performance. It was his second Player of the Match award in Test cricket.
