Chennai Super Kings (CSK) are one of the most successful franchises in the Indian Premier League (IPL), having won the prestigious trophy five times. However, IPL 2025 proved to be a disappointing campaign for the yellow brigade, as they finished at the bottom of the points table. Despite assembling a mix of experienced campaigners and promising youngsters, the team struggled to find form.

One of the key underperformers was Rahul Tripathi, whose poor displays in the middle overs cost CSK crucial matches. Ahead of IPL 2026, the franchise might consider releasing Tripathi and exploring new options in the auction to strengthen their squad. Here are three players CSK could target.

Here are 3 potential replacements CSK must look at for Rahul Tripathi

3. Narayan Jagadeesan

The wicketkeeper-batter Narayan Jagadeesan could be a viable replacement for Tripathi. Jagadeesan has been part of the CSK setup in previous IPL seasons but did not get enough opportunities to establish himself. However, he is now back in form, and is also with the Indian team as the backup wicketkeeper in Tests, as Rishabh Pant remains on the sidelines due to his injury.

Jagadeesan, a big name in the Indian domestic circuit, is known for his consistent performances in domestic cricket and tournaments like the Tamil Nadu Premier League highlight his potential. He can provide stability in the middle order and offer flexibility in team combinations, making him a useful addition to the squad.

2. Jonny Bairstow

England’s explosive batter Jonny Bairstow is another option CSK could consider. He is known for his aggressive strokeplay, and can dominate bowlers from the outset and give the team quick momentum at the top of the order. Recently, he has featured briefly in the IPL 2025 with Mumbai Indians as a replacement player, but he will now be available in the 2026 auction.

With truckloads of runs and experience behind his name, Bairstow is a big-match player and has the ability to turn the game on its head. He has won several matches with the bat in franchise leagues across the globe and his inclusion would not only strengthen CSK’s batting, but also serve as an example for young talents in the squad, who can learn from his experience in high-pressure situations.

1. Tim Seifert

The 30-year-old stumper-batter Tim Seifert could also be a promising pick for CSK. Although he has played only a few IPL matches so far, his recent performances in T20Is for New Zealand and various T20 leagues around the world have been ultra-impressive.

A ferocious top-order batter, Seifert can strike the ball all around the park, and perform well against spin, which is crucial on spin-friendly pitches like those in Chepauk — the home ground for CSK. His ability to score quick runs and adapt to different match situations makes him a valuable asset for any team.
