Star Indian all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja has brushed off parallels drawn with Kapil Dev after India’s thumping 140-run win against West Indies during the recently-concluded first Test in Ahmedabad. Jadeja earned the Player of the Match award for his 104* off 176 and 4/54 in 13 overs.

Jadeja’s humble response came after he was questioned whether he was going after Kapil’s double of 400 Test wickets and 5000 runs. Jadeja currently has 3990 runs and 334 wickets under his belt. The 36-year-old admitted that he does not put much emphasis on individual feats.

“Sir, you are putting pressure on me now. Now, I have to think about scoring another 1,000 runs and picking up another 60-70 wickets. At this stage, I am enjoying my cricket. I am not thinking about other records and milestones. I am working on my fitness, so that I can continue doing what I have been doing since so many years. That’s about it,” stated Jadeja, as quoted by The Times of India.

Jadeja also spoke on what the team management was thinking regarding the declaration decision.

“We were thinking about the declaration last night as well. We thought, on this wicket, 280-plus runs would be good enough (as a lead). So, that’s the thing and we did a great job (in closing out West Indies’ second innings),” he added.

Jadeja is currently serving as the vice-captain for the Test outfit. He has been a stalwart of Indian cricket across formats. Notably, Jadeja was not included in the ODI squad for the upcoming white-ball series against Australia.

Meanwhilel, India will take on Windies in the second fixture of the series in Delhi. The match is scheduled to commence on October 10 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium. The Shubman Gill-led unit will aim on clean-sweeping the fixture and securing some crucial points in the World Test Championship points table.
