India started their new home Test season brilliantly, thrashing West Indies by an innings and 140 runs inside three days at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad. The match, which saw India dominate from the opening session, ended shortly after lunch on Day 3, with Ravindra Jadeja and Mohammed Siraj leading the way in dismantling the visitors.

The hosts were looking to prove a point after their first home Test series defeat in nearly 12 years, suffered against New Zealand in 2024. After bowling West Indies out for just 162 in the first innings, thanks to Siraj’s 4/40 and Bumrah’s 3/42, India’s batters looked to further dominate the game. KL Rahul showcased his class with a 100, with Shubman Gill adding a captain’s fifty, and wicketkeeper Dhruv Jurel stole the show with a superb 125. Meanwhile, Jadeja continued his all-round brilliance with an unbeaten 104, guiding India to 448 for 5 before Gill declared with a lead of 286 runs.

Resuming on Day 3, India wasted little time in dismantling the West Indies’ second innings. Jadeja struck early, dismissing John Campbell and Brandon King, while Siraj once again found rhythm with the ball, taking 3 for 31. Kuldeep Yadav and Washington Sundar also chipped in with a wicket.

The only resistance came from Alick Athanaze, who made 38 off 74 balls. From 66 for 5 at lunch, the visitors folded for 146 in 45.1 overs. Jadeja’s figures of 4 for 54 displayed a memorable all-round performance, earning him the Player of the Match award. Siraj, too, had reason to celebrate, finishing with seven wickets across the two innings in what was his first Test at home, where he took five or more scalps in a match.
