The Indian women’s team will be under the spotlight when the ICC Women’s World Cup 2025 begins on September 30. The eight-team tournament will be played in India and Sri Lanka, with Pakistan playing their games in Colombo.
India have reached the final of the ICC Women’s World Cup twice and came extremely close to winning the trophy in 2017, only to be defeated by England in the finals. However, with this tournament being played at home, the Indian team are seen as favourites.
Here are the 3 India players to watch out for in the Women’s World Cup 2025:
1. Smriti Mandhana

The vice-captain of the Indian team, Smriti Mandhana has been the lynchpin of Indian batting for the past decade or so. She has scored 4,888 runs at an average of 47.92 and a strike rate of 89.83 in 108 WODIs, including 13 centuries and 32 half-centuries, with a best score of 136.
Mandhana has been in scintillating form, scoring back-to-back hundreds against Australia in the recent WODI series. She has been providing the majority of runs for India at the top, giving the team strong starts to build on. She has been the reason for India’s recent success in WODIs and will be the main target for opposition bowlers.
2. Jemimah Rodrigues

Jemimah Rodrigues is the middle-order anchor for the Indian team. Amongst the aggressive openers and finishers, Rodrigues has the technique and composure to hold the innings together. She can also rescue India from troubled positions, as she plays spin well and is strong against pace.
Rodrigues has scored 1,457 runs at an average of 32.37 and a strike rate of 87.87 in 51 WODIs, including two centuries and seven half-centuries, with a highest score of 123. Rodrigues will be tasked with being the anchor of the Indian batting and countering spinners in the middle overs.
3. Renuka Singh Thakur

Renuka Singh Thakur will be the lead Indian pacer in this ICC Women’s World Cup 2025. She has already shown her mettle in T20Is, and has also proven that she can trouble the best batters of opposition in WODIs. Renuka has taken 38 wickets at an economy of 5.03 in 21 WODIs, including one five-wicket haul and best bowling figures of 5/29.
