Dushmantha Chameera showed tremendous agility and game awareness to take a splendid catch off his own bowling in the 2025 Asia Cup clash between India and Sri Lanka in Dubai on Friday, September 26. The 33-year-old dismissed the dangerous Hardik Pandya in India’s first innings with his brilliance on the field.
Chameera bowled a quick delivery targeted at Hardik’s body to start the 17th over of the innings. The Baroda all-rounder looked to heave it for a six towards the on-side. However, the ball wasn’t short enough to play the pull shot. Hardik only managed to top-edge the ball towards the gap between mid-wicket and mid-on.
Chameera, who is a phenomenal athlete, called early and rushed towards the ball to take the catch. He kept his eyes on the ball while running to his right side and had to put in a dive in the end to take the challenging catch. This was a huge wicket for Sri Lanka as Hardik’s ability to go bonkers in the death overs is well known.
India eventually finished with a score of 202/5 after being asked to bat first. Chameera conceded 40 runs in his four overs. Abhishek Sharma top-scored for India with a 31-ball 61, while Tilak Varma, Sanju Samson, and Axar Patel chipped in with handy knocks.
